BEST IN BEAUTY | JUNE 2015

I gravitated towards bright, warm hues during the month of June! Since I’ve been doing a lot of sunless tanning this month, my favourite products look great on medium and tan summer skintones. One of my all time favourite looks is a bright lip with tan skin and a clean cat eye — I wore a bright lip pretty much everyday I wore makeup.

My love affair with Colourpop continued, and I also have two favourites from Becca this month. I went back to my all-time favourite liquid eyeliner (which makes it super easy to achieve a perfect winged liner, I promise!). Get ready for a healthy dose of summer beauty recommendations!

Disclaimer: there are a lot of Colourpop products in the post, because I placed an order last month and everything was awesome!

1. Colourpop Where The Light Is Super Shock Shadow Quad

US $20.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // Colourpop Where The Light Is Super Shock Shadow Quad Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

I love every single eyeshadow in this quad! There are two matte shades: Glow — which is a creamy vanilla, and Cornelious — a warm, mid-toned caramel. There are also two metallic and pearlized shades — Kathleenlights — a intense, bright golden copper (think MAC’s Amber Lights on crack) and Blaze — a bronze with an olive undertone, sprinkled with multi-dimensional glitter. Glow is the perfect brow bone highlight, I’ve been Cornelious as a transition shade with almost every eye look, and I just love KathleenLights (named after the quad’s creator — she has a lovely beauty channel on YouTube), it’s really flattering on green eyes and tan skin, the quintessential summertime shade for a bronze smokey eye. Blaze is a great shade to add some depth to the outer corner or smudge below your lower lash ine. You can use this quad alone and get a beautiful eye look, so if you’re looking to dive into Colourpop shadows, I would definitely recommend picking this quad up!

2. BECCA Shadow & Light Bronze / Contour Perfector

C $38.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // BECCA Shadow & Light Bronze / Contour Perfector Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

This is my favourite bronzer and contour powder to wear when I’m more tanned. Of all the bronzers I have, this one is the most golden-toned, and the darker side (which I use to sculpt my face) is quite dark, but it looks so natural — it was designed to mimic the natural shadows on your face. Becca says that the darker powder has black undertones (to create dimension) and the lighter powder has white gold undertones (to create a natural-looking light and lift). The darker side is a bit stiffer of a powder, which I actually really like, since it makes it difficult to overdo it. The lighter powder is creamy and has a subtle touch of shimmer — it makes you look perfectly bronzed. I like to use it to warm up my complexion when my foundation is too light for me during the summer months.

3. Colourpop Chi-Chi Lippie Stix

US $5.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // Colourpop Chi-Chi Lippie Stix Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

This is a bright, reddened orange — not for the faint of heart — but looks so amazing with a tan! You’ve heard me rave about Colourpop Lippie Stix before, and I own a lot of the shades — honestly I don’t think you can beat the quality for the price. These Lippie Stix are just as beautiful, comfortable and wear just as long as my most expensive lipsticks. So if you want to dabble in some fun summer colours, give them a try! Chi-Chi wears for a solid 6 hours on me before it needs a touch up, and will even hold up through eating and drinking. I wore it to a barbecue and it lasted from 1pm – 7pm (through lots of eating and drinking) before I needed a touch up. This satin formula is pretty fuss free, and it’s my favourite from the line.

4. Colourpop Brink Pencil

US $5.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // Colourpop Brink Pencil Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

These Colourpop Lip Pencils are just as amazing as their Lippie Stix and Shadows. They’re creamy, longwearing, and the shades coordinate with each of the Lippie Stix. I have the corresponding Lippie Stix in Brink, and it’s my favourite dark nude shade — ever. This lip liner is really versatile and I think you can wear it with any nude, pink, or peach lip. It adds fullness and dimension to your lips and it glides on easily with no tugging at the lip line. Colourpop describes is as a warm, dusty taupe — and I think that’s pretty accurate. This month, I’ve been pairing it up with Topanga Lippie Stix — another one of my favourite products for June. The body of these pencils is made of plastic, so make sure you have a really good sharpener (I’ve sharpened mine a few times). My favourite is the Duo Sharpener from Essence (available for only a few dollar in Canadian Shopper’s Drug Marts).

5. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette

C $32.00 – $ 112.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

Light Blue is my favourite crisp summer fragrance — I’ve worn it off and on for about 10 years. To me it’s a classic, timeless scent; it’s bright, clean and citrusy, and the lasting power is amazing. I can actually tell when someone else is wearing it, it’s so distinct. In the summer heat I like to wear lighter, fresher scents, and I think I’ll always have a bottle of Light Blue in my perfume collection.

{From Sephora.com}

Notes: Sicilian Citron, Bluebell, Granny Smith Apple, Jasmine Sambac, Bamboo, White Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Musk.
Style: Deep and true.

If you’ve never experienced Light Blue, go give it a sniff next time you’re at Sephora. If you like the scent, ask for a sample — you’ll totally fall in love!

6. bareMinerals All-Over Face Color in Pure Radiance

C $25.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // bareMinerals All-Over Face Color in Pure Radiance Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

This is a sample sized product that came in a set from Ulta. If you’re new to highlighter and want to try something that will be flattering and easy to use, try this one! Pure Radiance is soft peach loose powder that I use as a highlighter on the high points of my face, and I especially like it when I’m wearing warm-toned makeup looks. I think Pure Radiance would be flattering on a variety of skintones and is neutral enough to go with any look. It’s a more subtle highlight than some of my other favourites, providing more of a lit-from-within glow rather than obviously looking like you’re wearing a highlight. I wear this during the day when I want a subtle glow. I like to apply a soft dusting of it with my current favourite highlighting brush, the Zoeva 105 Luxe Highlight Brush.

7. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper

C $23.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

This is my all-time favourite liquid eyeliner! If you’re scared of liquid eyeliner but want to try one, I’d suggest the awesome pen-style liner from Kat Von D. It has a superfine, flexible brush tip and it’s the most foolproof eyeliner I’ve ever used. It also wears forever (guess that’s why it’s called a Tattoo Liner!). When I’m heading to a hot yoga class and I have makeup on, I’ll usually wash it off before class (because sweating heavily in a full face of makeup is disgusting!), but as a bit of an experiment this month I left my eye makeup (and this eyeliner) on to see how it would hold up — and after class I was pleasantly surprised to see that it still looked perfect. Although it’s not classified as a waterproof eyeliner, it’s definitely very water-resistant. To remove it, I use Jojoba Oil and my regular Cleanser, otherwise it’s not going anywhere. The only negative is that it dries to a satin finish, rather than the matte black that I prefer — but, I guess it’s a trade off. The Wet n Wild eyeliner that I’ve mentioned previously like dries totally matte, but it’s not as long wearing, or water-resistant.

Note: I also tried the Kat Von D Ink Liner this month, and I didn’t like it at all. It has a felt-tip instead of a brush tip, and it’s not as flexible, or as slim, as the original.

8. Colourpop Topanga Lippie Stix

US $5.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // Colourpop Topanga Lippie Stix Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

Here’s another favourite product from my last Colourpop order, which, let’s be honest — I purchased totally because of the name! Did anyone else used to watch Boy Meets World?! Anyway — Colourpop describes Topanga as a mid-tone dusty coral, and on me it’s more of a mid-tone dusty pink. It could fall into the darker nude category, but it leans a bit more on the warm side. It’s a very unique colour, and even though it’s a bit of a darker shade than I would usually wear in the summer, I love the warmth of it and they way it makes my lips look. This is another great shade for the daytime, or an office environment. I feel put together and professional when I wear it — tt’s still a pop of colour without looking over the top. This is another satin finish, and I find the wear time here to be consistent with other Colourpop Lippie Stix in a satin finish — about 5 – 6 hours.

9. L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray

C $14.96

justine-celina_Loreal-setting-spray

My holy grail makeup setting spray was made by Victoria’s Secret, but when they stopped selling their makeup line, the spray was discontinued. Ever since, I’ve been on the hunt for an affordable, fragrance-free setting spray that works. If you’re new to the concept of a setting spray — it’s basically like a hairspray for your face (but feels weightless) — you spritz it on your face after you’re done with your makeup and it sets your makeup into place, and takes away a powdery look to the skin. For us combination / oily skinned gals, it’s a lifesaver in the summertime! I really like this setting spray from L’Oréal — it’s a simple formula that gets the job done, you can find it at any drugstore, and it’s a fraction of the cost of high-end setting sprays. Bonus: in the summer I keep it in the fridge, and it’s so refreshing!

10. BECCA Mineral Blush in Songbird

C $38.00

Best in Beauty | June 2015 // BECCA Mineral Blush in Songbird Photos, Review, Swatches // JustineCelina.com

Becca describes Songbird as a peachy pink, but I think it’s more of a deep apricot with a golden sheen. It’s a beautiful, deeper blush with warm undertones that looks fantastic on medium and tan skintones. The texture is creamy and pigmented (so go easy with the application) and it gives the cheeks a healthy flush of colour that really lights up the face. Becca‘s powder highlighters and blushes are, in my opinion, some of the best on the market. On me, songbirds wears all day, and it’s my go-to summer blush that pairs perfectly with warm, bronzy looks.
