Fashionistas, welcome back for my final TREND GUIDE of Spring 2018 — dedicated to my recent obsession with all things lavender (if you’ve been following along this spring, you probably saw this coming!). It’s been an exceptionally busy couple of weeks (I’ll be sharing some fun projects I’ve been working on BTS with you soon!), but before the lilacs faded, we managed to pop out to shoot some new style content in my hometown of Strathmore, Alberta. In fact, we squeezed this shoot into the only free hour we had on our way to Brooks to celebrate a birthday — I had to paint my nails at a sequence of red lights on my way out of the city (yes, I was driving!). All things considered, I love the way these images came out!
Regardless of current trends (or the season, for that matter!), a beautiful, flowy top (which I love so much I picked it up in 2 other colours and ordered one for my Mom!), skinny jeans, comfortable, low heels, a cute bag and a great pair of shades is what you’ll find me in on most spring weekends or casual days — another one of my go-to outfit formulas that’s ultra wearable, yet polished. But this spring, I’ve updated this classic look with a selection of seasonal trends and fresh accessories including lavender, pleats, fluted sleeves, straw bags, block heels, coin necklaces and pearls! If you want to dip your toes into the lavender trend but aren’t sure where to start, stay tuned for a few tips that will help you integrate this of-the-moment hue into your wardrobe or beauty routine this season — even if you’re not sure it’s a colour you can pull off (because you totally can!). Today I’m sharing a handful of my favourite trend highlights to carry you from spring into summer (and beyond) in style!
If you’ve been following along with myFASHION section (or Instagram feed) this summer, you may have seen this post coming! Over the past few years, I’ve accumulated quite the collection of natural material bags — we’re talking everything from raffia, to wood, to jute, to straw. In fact, I’ve fallen so in love with them that I was inspired to start a brand new series here at JustineCelina called THE ACCESSORY EDIT, where I dedicate an entire post to a standout accessory (or possibly accessories!) of the moment and how to style them, along with my best shopping tips, killer sale alerts and tons of shoppable links at every price point. The first post in this series is an ode to my love of natural material bags of all shapes, sizes, colours and ages!
Natural material bags are something I’ve worn since long before they were particularly on trend — in fact, I’ve owned some of my vintage straw bags for nearly a decade! I love organic looking, natural details and textures both in my wardrobe and in my home. Last summer, I decided to finally pull the trigger on the iconic Cult Gaia Large Ark Bamboo Handbag (a birthday splurge!) and it reignited my love for natural materials bags! Over the past year, natural material bags have been spotted everywhere — on the arms of your favourite bloggers, celebrities and fashionistas alike. Today I’m sharing my entire collection of natural material bags (that’s 19!) with you, along with all the different ways I’ve worn them, plus how I plan to style them up into AW18. If you, too, are a lover of natural materials, hang out with me while I spill the details on everything you wanted to know about the bags of the moment!
I’m not really sure what’s happened — but this year, my love of cocktails is outshining my love of sangria (hey… no hard feelings sangria — we had a really good run!). I’ve also been dreaming of publishing a lavender lemonade for years — but funny enough, it’s never made it’s way onto these pages. I had the most delicious lavender lemonade the summer before I started blogging at some small town in interior British Columbia on our way back from a music festival — and I’ve been determined to create an equally delicious lavender lemonade ever since! That said, I know there are tons of lavender lemonade recipes out there, but now that I have a few solid years of COCKTAIL development under my belt and some incredible, unique, delicious ingredients in my bar, I thought I’d give it a go this summer!
So, while I fully intended this recipe to be a vodka-based lavender lemonade, as I moved though a rather intense testing process (remember when I mentioned I was cocktail testing over the long weekend?), I ended up swapping lavender for lilacs and vodka for gin — and I’m so glad I did! My Japanese Lilac Gin Lemonade tastes like summertime in the country and is very near to my heart — incorporating Japanese Lilac blossoms from the tree at my childhood home in rural Alberta, honey from the hives just across the stream and Eau Claire Distillery‘s award winning Parlour Gin distilled from the flourishing barley crops and unique botanicals of Alberta’s prairies. This floral-kissed, lightly effervescent lemonade was created with a thoughtful, hand crafted, farm-to-glass approach and made for lazy summer days on the patio, easy entertaining and watching the sunset behind glowing fields of canola! Join myself and my Connecting Over Cocktails crew to indulge in a summer inspired cocktail menu (check out their creations at the end of this post!) and enter to win bottle of the best gin I’ve ever tasted, along with a Tour & Tasting for 2 at Turner Valley’s Eau Claire Distillery! Cheers to hot summer nights, refreshing gourmet cocktails and the celebrating the bountiful offerings of this beautiful land!
Friends and fashionistas, welcome back for my first TREND GUIDE of Summer 2018! This season, I’ve resolved to have as much fun as possible (with FASHION and otherwise!) and that mindset is definitely reflected in this look. I actually picked up most of this outfit during a last minute shopping spree in preparation for my Exploring Calgary’s Colourful East Village Junction article with Tourism Calgary! I had spotted this dress in the window at H&M a couple of weeks prior and couldn’t get it out of my head, plus I knew it would be perfect for the setting! These fun (and super comfortable!) Topshop espadrilles also caught my eye that day, as did this jubilant circular bag from Zara. As someone who’s typically a very calculated, mostly online shopper, it was a refreshing change of pace to let my impulses take over! This colourful, fun, free spirited outfit is the result — and one I’ve worn several times this season. Every time I do, I receive tons of compliments and questions — so naturally I thought it would be the perfect look to kick off my Summer 2018 TREND GUIDES!
Today we’re chatting about a handful of this summer’s hottest trends — including bold florals, rainbow brights, espadrilles, red, woven circular bags, shell details, tassels, pompoms, statement earrings and stained lips (because sometimes, more is more!). While I wouldn’t typically wear these statement items together, this summer, I’m all about switching things up and getting out of my comfort zone. But some things never change! I’ll always be a fan of breezy, statement summer dresses that almost style themselves — you know, the ones that you can just throw on and look fabulous, no matter the occasion? Today I’m sharing a selection of my favourite, flowy floral dresses with you, along with versatile styling tips to ensure maximum wear — whether you pick up something new or are looking for fresh ideas to rework your existing summer wardrobe!
Do you have a power colour? I’m beginning to think mine is red. Oddly enough, it’s not a hue I’ve worn often over the past 4ish years since rocking my natural hair colour. Back in my (much) younger, platinum blonde days (yes, really — in fact, I’ve had almost every single hair colour except jet black!) red was one of my favourite colours to wear! This year, I’ve been increasingly drawn to red and have incorporated more of this statement shade into my personal style. Fast forward to SS18 and red is everywhere — a classic colour that demands attention, instills confidence and couldn’t be more suited to our scorching summer climate. I’ve always believed that red lips give you superpowers, so just imagine what wearing red-to-toe (ie: wearing red, head to toe) can do for you!
Today’s post is a fresh installment in my COLOUR CRUSH series and my take on a summery, red-to-toe look — along with a crash course on colour theory to help you find your perfect shade of red and master on-trend, monochromatic dressing. The best part? Once you’ve learned the basics, you can apply these tips to any colour or shade if red isn’t your thing! No matter what colour you chose, monochromatic looks are always slimming and sophisticated — and although this bold look was a bit outside of my comfort zone, I’m so glad I went for it! Get ready for a healthy dose of red-hot style inspiration, mashed up with an introduction to a handful of seasonal trends and an update on what to expect FASHION wise here at JustineCelina this summer (hint: get ready for tons of fresh content and the emergence of a brand new series!).
Happy Friday, friends! Things were a bit quiet here at JustineCelina during early June — and whenever that happens, I promise it’s for good reason! As I mentioned, I was working on a couple of exciting projects BTS — and this was one of them. We spent a beautiful Sunday earlier this month Exploring East Village Junction with Tourism Calgary — and you can read all about it in my second article for VisitCalgary.com!
If you’re craving an inner city adventure this weekend, I highly recommend spending a few hours exploring Calgary’s colourful East Village Junction! Tucked away behind the iconic King Edward Hotel on the corner of 4th Street and 8th Ave SE, EV’s liveliest lot showcases the vibrancy and charisma of Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood in an innovative, market-like community space where 15 local businesses and artisans have utilized shipping containers to create an entirely unique retail experience in Calgary’s core. Discover all #evJuction has to offer now through September 3rd — complete with unique wares for fashion, art, vintage and home decor enthusiasts, food trucks, delicious vegan eats, bicycle rentals, live performances and yes… even fitness classes! There’s something for everyone at Calgary’s East Village Junction Pop-up Retail Park — and today I’m sharing a handful of my favourite things to see, do, shop and eat!
Well hey there, June! Summer is only a few weeks away and Rebecca Dawn Design and I are celebrating with the ultimate soft, dreamy, pastel, watercolour inspired edition of DIGITAL BLOOMS! I’m obviously partial to these shades as they mimic my personal brand here at JustineCelina — and I have to say this is one of my favourite sets of free floral downloads we’ve created over the years. As I’m sure you’ve noticed (just look at my content over the past couple of months!) pastels are everywhere this spring and summer, so this month we curated a dreamy selection of Willow Eucalyptus, blue Delphiniums, lavender Garden Roses, creamy Pom Pom Chrysanthemums, pink Alstroemeria, blush Hyacinths, magenta Tulips and coral Asiatic lilies to create a beautiful, watercolour inspired ombre effect. Embrace the softer side of summer flowers and bring a harmonious, uplifting vibe to your tech with our June 2018 Digital Blooms!
You probably guessed it, this pastel wonderland was inspired by the Pantone Spring 2018 Colour Trend Report! I’ve been particularly inspired by lavender and lilac hues lately (OMG, the lilacs are so gorgeous right now!) and have been incorporating them into my creative work, home, wardrobe and even my beauty routine lately (more on that coming soon!). Freshen up your tech for a brand new season by clicking through to download a floral tech wallpaper to the background of your computer, tablet or phone — absolutely free, no strings attached (seriously… I don’t even ask for your email address!).
