PANTONE 2016 COLOURS OF THE YEAR INSPIRATION | ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY

Last week, Pantone announced their colours of the year — they chose two colours for the first time in history! The official Colours of the Year for 2016 are Rose Quartz (a soft pastel pink), and Serenity (a periwinkle pastel blue). Today’s post is an introduction to these shades, including ideas on how to incorporate these colour trends into your personal style for the holidays, as well as inspiration for home decor, fashion and beauty.

I’ve followed Pantone for colour inspiration my entire career — they’re the global colour authority for creative industries. They provide a colour system that ensures colour translates accurately across all mediums, whether it be in fashion, beauty, print, or in design. Pantone also predicts colour trends, so I like to keep up with what they’re forecasting to stay ahead of the curve!

20+ HEALTHY RECIPES TO KICK START THE NEW YEAR

After an indulgent holiday season, I always look forward to getting back on track and into a routine that supports my overall well being in January. During the first week of each new year, I find myself searching my FOOD archives for my healthiest winter recipes — and know you’re doing the same, as my views on these posts skyrocket. So, I created my 20+ Healthy Recipes to Kick Start The New Year roundup! This mega post contains over 20 of my healthiest, freshest, plant-based recipes incorporating all the gorgeous seasonal produce available to us in early January, for easy browsing reference. From breakfast through dinner, with nourishing snacks, fresh juices and smoothies along the way, you’ll find everything you need to create a healthy January meal plan in this post! As always, my recipes are free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar — and most are vegetarian / vegan. I’ve indicated these categories in this post with convenient labels so you can easily find what you’re looking for!

Although I do my best to maintain my plant-based diet over the holidays, I firmly believe in balance — you better believe I indulge in my fair share of treats as well! As someone with dairy and gluten sensitivities, I find my digestion can easily get thrown out of whack when I’m not being as mindful while I’m eating, drink and being merry. My favourite ways to kick start my metabolism and get things running smoothly again is by treating my body to lots of colourful fruits and veggies, juices and smoothies, hearty salads and bowls, plant-based entrées and simple, wholesome soups. I also aim to keep my snacking to a minimum and give the baking and the booze a rest (you won’t find any snacks, baking or cocktail recipes in this roundup). Who else is having a dry January this year? If you’re in need of some fresh recipes to help fuel these first few weeks of the new year with intention, you’ve come to the right place — pour yourself a mug of herbal tea and come peruse my all-time-favourite, nourishing winter recipes!

COLOUR CRUSH | CLASSIC BLUE

Colour lovers, today I’m thrilled to bring you a fresh post in my COLOUR CRUSH series dedicated to the Pantone 2020 Colour of the Year, Classic Blue! Selected by Pantone in late 2019 for its ability to ‘instil calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era’, it seems especially fitting given the current state of the world. I first introduced you to Classic Blue with January’s Digital Blooms (be sure to hop over to download a free, floral, Pantone 2020 inspired tech wallpaper!) and have been working with this comforting, of-the-moment hue across categories since. That said, although blue has always had a small place in my wardrobe (albeit mostly in denim and more formal attire), as someone with warm colouring, it isn’t a hue I’m typically drawn to. Longtime readers will know that each year I allow Pantone’s selections to inspire and challenge me here at JustineCelina — incorporating the Colour of the Year into my life and content in a way that’s congruent to my personal style. Fast forward to March and I’m absolutely crazy about Classic Blue — and today I’m sharing the inspiration with you!

In the midst of another Winter Storm Warning here in Calgary (and after a particularly heavy week in regards to recent news), I thought this weekend was the perfect time to put the finishing touches on a post I’ve been working on since February. As the way we live continues to change over the coming months, I want JustineCelina to remain a source of inspiration and joy for anyone who needs it — including myself! This instalment of my COLOUR CRUSH series is dedicated to Classic Blue transitional styling, starring one of my favourite casual winter-to-spring outfit formulas, perfect for chilly weather. As always, I’m wearing a melange of high, low, old and new in todays look — a mash up of of transitional wardrobe staples intermixed with trend-forward accessories to create an easy-going late winter outfit that’s quintessentially 2020. If you’re curious about Pantone’s 2020 Colour of the Year how to integrate Classic Blue into your wardrobe as we transition into spring, fix yourself a mug of your favourite tea and settle in for an uplifting Sunday read!

MY 3RD BLOGIVERSARY + 10 THINGS I LEARNED IN MY THIRD YEAR OF BLOGGING

Friends, welcome back for my annual (and very belated!) Blogiversary celebration! My 3rd Blogiversary went roaring by on March 2nd — but to be honest, I was completely engrossed in our Living Room Reveal and some other fun, last minute projects at the time. Earlier this year I chatted about changing things up around here and creating space to let life happen — and that’s exactly what I’ve done! There’s been a lot happening here at JustineCelina lately as we get ready to reveal the next rooms in our SPACE REFRESH series (coming your way later this month!) and I simply had to prioritize my time differently to make this all possible. March was one of my most creatively fulfilling months of my life — it left me completely exhausted but also incredibly inspired! In the two months since My 3rd Blogiversary I’ve reached some milestones I’ve dreamed of achieving since launching JustineCelina and they’ve reminded me exactly why I started this whole thing in the first place. So, although it’s a bit late and I’ve been chipping away at this post when I can, I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this Pantone Spring 2018 inspired 3rd Blogiversary soirée with you!

In the midst of it all, I came up with the concept for this celebratory post pretty last minute — about 10 days before the shoot (which, admittedly, was about 2 months ago!). It was so spontaneous, but serendipitous and things just fell into place (I shot it myself one sunny Friday afternoon with my tripod and self timer). This year, we’re going all out — because after 323 blog posts, almost a million views (OMG!), 180 000 images, 2 900 comments and a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears (quite literally), I truly never thought I’d get here! My third year was one of intense growth, both on these pages and off of them — I hope you enjoy reading about 10 Things I Learned in my Third Year of Blogging in this raw, honest, unabashed post (you may need a sparkling glass of rosé to get though it!). Whether you’re new to JustineCelina (and there are a lot of you beautiful people — welcome!) or have been with me since the very beginning, I’m so grateful to have you here celebrating with me today!

COLOUR CRUSH | BLUSH

I couldn’t think of a better time than the first week of February (and during another crazy winter storm — cue eye roll!) to share my latest style obsession with you — blush! Those of you who know me in real life can attest to the fact that I’ve probably said I ‘don’t really wear pink’ about 1000 times (I’ve even mentioned that in a few posts!) — but today I’m eating my words! I’m completely obsessed with all things blush right now and have had this stunning Topshop Alicia Boucle Wool Blend Coat (that I snapped up on clearance just before it sold out over the holidays!) on repeat lately, so I thought it was time to share a blush focused look with you. As I mentioned in our February DIGITAL BLOOMS, there’s definitely a bit of a theme happening here at JustineCelina this month! So, I thought it was the perfect time to revive my COLOUR CRUSH series — where I highlight an on trend colour and show you how to work it into your personal style!

If all this February snow has you craving spring’s pastels, cozy up with me on this chilly Wednesday evening and let’s chat about spring colour trends and all things blush! In this post, I’m sharing my favourite blush outerwear pieces — along with some tips on how to style blush pieces in a sophisticated way, my go-to daytime makeup look, where I snagged these gorgeous OTK Steve Madden boots for less than $50 and my favourite retailer for designer bag dupes (that’s right, this is not the real deal — and it’s under $40!). If you’re intrigued by February’s quintessential hue and have debated whether or not it’s for you or are looking for styling ideas, you’ll love today’s post!
