HOW TO STYLE | CALGARY’S WHITE HAT FOR THE STAMPEDE

Yahoo! The Stampede is in full swing and I’m back today with a fresh post in my HOW TO STYLE series dedicated to Calgary’s iconic White Hat! Whether you’re a seasoned Stampede veteran or have only glimpsed images of the Calgary Stampede from afar, you’ve undoubtedly seen this steadfast symbol of Calgary hospitality donned by many during these festive 10 days. This year I had the pleasure of styling a custom-fit Smithbilt 7x White Felt Hat for my latest article for Tourism Calgary about What to Wear to The Calgary Stampede — and I knew I wanted to bring a comprehensive post to JustineCelina in honour of this quintessentially Calgarian cowboy hat. I know it will remain a treasured piece in my Stampede wardrobe for years to come!

As a born-and-raised Alberta girl and lover of western, bohemian inspired FASHION year-round, I’m thrilled to offer up some fresh Stampede style ideas for 2019. Although I used the White Hat as my ‘anchor piece’ in this look, you can absolutely swap it out for any other western or cowboy hat and achieve the same effect! That said, if you’re ready to fully commit to the finest, custom-made western hats in all the land, I’m also sharing my first Smithbilt Hat experience with you (it certainly won’t be my last!). Saddle up for a free-spirited, modern take on styling The White Hat up for the 2019 Calgary Stampede, plus a breakdown of my favourite dresses, boots, belts and accessories to carry you through The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth in style!

WHAT TO WEAR TO | THE CALGARY STAMPEDE, PART II

The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth is just around the corner — and today, in partnership with Saks OFF 5TH, I’m thrilled to bring you an updated What to Wear to | The Calgary Stampede post! Longtime readers will know how passionate I am about fully embracing the unique sartorial opportunities the Stampede provides. Growing up on the Alberta prairies, I’ve seen my fair share of western wear over the years and it has undoubtedly shaped my personal style. I’m all about looking the part and dressing your best for any occasion — the Calgary Stampede included! These wild 10 days are packed full of incredible networking opportunities, endless parties, fanfare, live entertainment and world-class culinary experiences — and each year, I curate a few western inspired outfits with a modern, bohemian sensibility to carry me though in style. If you’re looking for some fresh Stampede fashion ideas for both personal and professional settings, I’ve totally got you covered!

This year I’ve swapped my vintage turquoise for gold accents, my fringe bag for this blush pink beauty, my vintage cowboy boots for my favourite pair of OTK western boots and my undone braids for a flat brimmed hat, but one thing remains — the quintessential little white dress! Many of you came along on my Saks OFF 5TH shopping trip at Cross Iron Mills via Insta Stories earlier this month as I sourced items for this look. I found so many incredible pieces (I actually ended up purchasing a few other items that will be trickling into my style content soon!), but this sweet, flowy little alice + olivia Danna Lace Inset Dress stole my heart! And you know I love a good deal, so I was ecstatic to score it for 60% off (at $147.99 from $370!). Come along with me to the rolling, sunlit fields near my childhood home in rural Alberta today as I break down how to style the perfect LWD for The 2018 Calgary Stampede!

WHAT TO WEAR TO | THE CALGARY STAMPEDE

With the Calgary Stampede currently underway I thought it would be the perfect time for another installment in my WHAT TO WEAR TO series! Today I’m chatting about what I’m wearing this year and sharing my love for great vintage and authentic western style with a bohemian influence. If you don’t live near Calgary, let me fill you in — the Calgary Stampede is a 10 day outdoor festival referred to as The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, celebrating the culture of the wild wild west. It’s also one big excuse for the city to shut down and party, which I have to say Calgarians do quite well! And while my crazy stampeding days are long behind me, there are some fantastic Stampede events and parties (not to mention excellent networking) that takes place during these 10 days — and I like to look the part! I think there’s an opportunity to dress really well at the Calgary Stampede and embrace the roots of traditional western style.

This post is also a collaboration with the lovely Dawn Bradley Hair who I worked with to create this gorgeous bohemian hairstyle. If you’re looking for some textured, braided, perfectly undone hair inspiration, Dawn breaks down how to achieve the style in 10 easy steps!

PRE SPRING 2019 TREND GUIDE | BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

With the first official day of spring behind us and temperatures soaring into the teens here in Calgary, I couldn’t be happier to bring you my first Spring 2019 TREND GUIDE! The sun is out, the skies are blue and the snow is starting to melt — which means it’s time begin rotating our seasonal wardrobes, transitioning winter out (byyyyyyyye!) as we ease into spring styles. That said, March weather is extremely unpredictable in Calgary — for example, over the course of the next week, temperatures range between a sunny 14°C degrees and a snowy -1°C! Dressing the part can be a bit of a daunting task when all we want to do is pack away our coats, knits and endless layers to embrace a fresh season!

These in-between months where we have the opportunity to blend the best of 2 seasons are actually some of my favourite to dress for — and that’s exactly how this experimental, bohemian look came to life! If you’re craving spring trends and colours but still faced with the bipolar nature of transitional weather, this post is for you. Today I’m chatting about how you can start integrating some of Spring 2019‘s hottest trends into your wardrobe right now, juxtaposed with cold weather style staples to create a versatile winter-meets-spring outfit formula. Saddle up for a free-spirited, transitional take on faux fur, florals, western boots, flat-brimmed hats and Pantone’s Spring / Summer 2019 Colour Trend Report as we watch the  sun rise over the rolling fields near my childhood home in rural Alberta!

Happy love day, friends! This year, I’m putting a PANTONE 2019 Colour of the Year spin on Valentine’s celebrations with a warm, pink-hued introduction to all things Living Coral! By now, you’ve likely heard about 2019’s hottest hue — either here at JustineCelina, or elsewhere online. As a creative professional, I’ve followed PANTONE (the global colour authority for creative industries) for inspiration my entire career. In fact, I even have a section dedicated to them here on the blog to categorize all my PANTONE inspired work throughout the years! As someone who’s very inspired by colour, I love to stay informed about the latest colour trends and allow them to inspire, challenge and push my creative work.

As you can probably imagine, I’m particularly passionate about PANTONE’s selection for 2019! If you’re craving a serious dose of colour to help see you through these final wintery months as we (slowly but surely!) transition into spring, today’s post is an ode to Pantone’s 2019 Colour of the Year. Beautiful people, I’m elated to share the first seasonal LOOKBOOK of 2019 here at JustineCelina! If you’re just tuning in and you didn’t catch my 2018 Review + 2019 Goals post last week, you may have missed the announcement that I’ll be producing one, 12 outfit LOOKBOOK seasonally this year to help inspire your sartorial choices — and I couldn’t be more excited about it! Although winter officially arrived about a month ago, we’re now in the heart of the season. Surprisingly, the weather here in Calgary has been very mild and relatively snow-free (most days have been above freezing!) — presenting some unique style options to a girl who’s used to making the most of our long, harsh Canadian winters!

With January sales in full effect and the onset of a new year, now is the perfect time to clean out your closet, identify holes in your wardrobe, get inspired and refine your personal style! As always, this LOOKBOOK features everything I’ve been wearing and loving in both personal and professional settings this season — a melange of high, low, old, new and vintage, along with tons of shoppable links at every price point! Although winter can be an uninspiring time for many in the FASHION department, I use cooler weather as an opportunity to experiment with cozy layers, sumptuous fabrics, unique textures, daring prints and a rich colour palette  to create polished looks to take me from day to night. PATTERN PLAY | PAISLEY

Welcome back for a fresh installment in my PATTERN PLAY series today, friends! Earlier this autumn, we discussed all things snakeskin — one of AW18‘s hottest prints. While the pattern we’re focusing on in this post isn’t nearly as statement-making, I was absolutely thrilled to see a resurgence of paisley this season. Paisley is a very vintage feeling print that’s always had a special place in my wardrobe — but when I spotted this dress earlier this autumn (which I think would make a stunning holiday dress for you fellow bohemian beauties!) it was love at first sight! In true JustineCelina style I ordered her in 2 different colour stories and I have so much fun styling her up this autumn / winter. Today’s post, shot at my childhood home in rural Alberta, is dedicated to all things paisley — including the history of the print, styling options, tips to help you select your perfect paisley piece and tons of shoppable links at every price-point for your browsing pleasure!

Although I consider paisley to be a classic print, it’s also a polarizing one — you either love it or hate it. I personally love it! Paisley has graced the pages of JustineCelina many times, but made less of a statement (like in my vintage scarves, for example). It also has quite an interesting history! Although of Persian origin (the buta shape is characterized by an almond-shaped motif with a curved tip), paisley became popular in psychedelic culture in the 60’s thanks to The Beatles. The buta traditionally symbolizes fire and commonly makes an appearance on Persian carpets, rugs and textiles — but this season, we’ve seen it popping up more frequently in the form of dresses, skirts, blazers, scarves and ties. If you’re intrigued by this unconventional pattern and have been coveting a paisley piece of your own, settle in for a educational, fashion-focused read!
