July was the month of lip products! I wore lots of different lip colours last month and generally kept things light on the eyes — one of my favourite summer looks is a bright lip with a simple eye and winger liner. Most of my favourite products last month were things that I’ve loved for a long time and rediscovered, or products I’ve rotated in for the summer because they contain SPF (try to get your SPF in wherever you can, ladies!).
I also stumbled on a couple of new products — one extremely beautiful highlighter, and a limited edition edition lipstick exclusively for Canadians that smells and tastes like Maple syrup! Cozy up with me on this stormy night in Calgary and let’s chat beauty!
1) Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop
C $46.00
Here’s a product that’s getting a lot of hype right now — and for good reason! I’m happy to report that Champagne Pop totally lives up to the hype; this is an absolutely gorgeous highlight that will suit literally every skintone. Sephora describes it as ‘a soft white gold with pinky peach undertones’, and I think that’s 100% accurate. The formula is soft, creamy, and extremely pigmented — a little goes a long way with this one. I’ve mentioned previously how much I love Becca’s highlighters and blushes, and I think they really outdid themselves with this one. It’s definitely been my to-go highlighter when I really want a serious glow, but like the way it looks with a subtle application as well. I also like to wear this as an eyeshadow and inner corner highlight — which is something I’ve been doing a lot this month, paired with a bright lip and winger liner. Note: This is sold out at online at Sephora Canada the time I published this post, but it’s been restocked frequently, so if you must have it, keep checking back (or pop into your local Sephora to see if they have some left in-store).
If you’re looking for a budget dupe, and you’re visiting the US anytime soon, pick up the Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection to Reflect Shimmer Palette in Hollywood Boulevard for $5.99 (review here) from Walgreens or Duade Reede. It’s pretty similar, but Champagne Pop has a more peach in it, while Hollywood Boulevard is slightly more golden.
I’m wearing the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop on the tops of my cheekbones, tip of my nose and on my cupid’s bow.
2) Bite Beauty Maple Matte Crème Lipstick in Warmed Maple
C $28.00
When I heard Bite Beauty was coming out with a limited edition lipstick range exclusively for Canadians that smells like maple syrup, and was inspired by the changing colours of fall leaves, I freaked out! I mean — how cool is that? Bite Beauty is one of my all time favourite brands, and I’ve mentioned their lipsticks quite a few times here at JustineCelina. If you’re unfamilar with the line and are looking for some more information about the brand in general, check out my posts here and here). The shade I picked up is Warmed Maple — it’s a brightened orange-red with a glossy sheen. From what I read online before I purchased this lipstick, I assumed it was supposed to be matte, with a ‘velvet, soft focus finish’. But as you can see from the photos, it isn’t matte at all! I love the colour (although in the photos online at Sephora it looks much more muted), and it feels rich and luxurious on the lips — just like their Luminious Crème formula, but slightly thinner. It wore for about 6 hours on me, was really comfortable, and smelt (and tasted!) just like maple syrup (the scent does fade over time and isn’t overpowering at all). And just like all Bite products, it’s made with natural, food grade ingredients, so you could literally eat it (but don’t)! If you’re looking to treat yourself to a unique lip product, I really recommend checking out the Bite Beauty Maple Matte Creme Lipstick range — there are some gorgeous fall colours in the line!

3) Milani Brow Shaping Clear Wax Pencil
US $4.49
This is an inexpensive, no fuss brow wax that I discovered this month, and I love it! I was using NYX Eyebrow Shaper previously, and I like this much better. The pencil doesn’t drag as much on the brow, and the formula is a bit softer and easier to work with. I like to use a brow wax first to keep my eyebrows in place (and give my colour products something to stick to), then apply the Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade in Dark Brown with the brush from the SEPHORA COLLECTION Fall in Line Brow Stencil Kit, and it’s my favourite product combo, ever (read more about the other products here)! In the summer heat, these brows are sweat-proof and water-resistant while still looking natural. Canadians, I purchase Milani products at Superstore.

4) Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Trixie
C $23.00
Trixie has been living in my bag for the entire month of July, so it’s safe to say this was a favourite! Sephora describes is as a ’24 karat pink’ — it’s a warm, mid-toned pink with golden shimmer and a sheer finish. I’ve mentioned Buxom Lip Creams previously here and here, and I love their Lip Polishes too (they’re a similar formula; the Lip Creams have a creamy finish with no shimmer or glitter, and the Lip Polishes have a sheer finish with shimmer or glitter in the formula). Trixie is really easy to wear (tt’s one of those convenient apply-without-a-mirror type of shades), so I like to keep in in my bag to throw on top of any other lip colour I may be wearing, or pop on to bare lips when I want a little extra shine and sparkle. It’s slightly plumping without being sticky, and has a pleasant, sweet smell.
I’m wearing Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Trixie on my lips.
5) Maison Martin Margiela ‘Replica’ Jazz Club Fragrance
When I placed the order for Champagne Pop and Warmed Maple, I chose a few free fragrance samples at checkout, and Jazz Club was one of them. I already own ‘Replica’ Beach Walk (review and run-down on the brand concept here), so I wanted to check out a couple of Maison Martin Margiela‘s other scents. I could smell Jazz Club as soon as I opened the box, and I was completely intoxicated by it. It’s a sweet, spicy, smoky fragrance (that I discovered is actually for men!), and not something I would usually wear during the summer, but I absolutely fell in love with this scent. It’s deep, heavy and comforting in the best way possible; my boyfriend really loves the scent too, and I think it’s totally unisex. On me, the vanilla notes come out more the longer I’ve been wearing it (while the spiciness fades), and it lasts all day. If you’re looking for a sexy fall scent that veers away from the norm, check Jazz Club out; ask for a sample the next time you’re at Sephora (or see if they’re still available online during your next checkout!). If I’m still loving it come fall, I’ll probably pick up the full size — the only drawback is that I wish they made a smaller size, or a rollerball, since the bottle is such a commitment both in terms of size and cost.

6) Colourpop Frida Pencil
US $5.00
Here I am again raving about natural pink lip liners, but I’ve found a new holy grail ‘my-lips-but-better’ lip liner. Frida is really similar to the colour of my natural lips, so I like to use it to shape and define my lip line. Sometimes I even fill my lips in with it, like in the photo below. If you’ve been following JustineCelina for awhile, you’ll know I love Colourpop as a brand, and have mentioned their lip liners before, but I’ve been reaching for Frida non-stop this month. The formula of these inexpensive lip liners is creamy, super pigmented, and glides smoothly onto the lips. I can see myself burning through multiple tubes of this shade in a hurry! If you love neutral pink lip liners, Frida is a must in my opinion. I also love the Frida Lippie Stix (review here). If you’re not familiar with Colourpop, they make coordinating lipsticks (Lippie Stix) and lip liners (Pencils) for each of their shades, and they’re all $5 US!
I’m wearing Colourpop Frida Pencil all over my lips as a matte lipstick.
7) Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in Orange Punch
C $18.00
I realize that this photo may not be super helpful, since my Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in Orange Punch is so well loved that I’ve completely worn all the type off of the tube! Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons are my absolute favourite lip crayons on the market. I own multiple shades, and I always wear them to death during the summer. They’re a sheer, glossy formula that is so comfortable to wear (it actually contains silk extract), and smells delicious — plus they contain an SPF of 15. You know what a fanatic I am about skincare and SPF, and I like to make sure my lips are protected from sun damage as well. Orange Punch is a sheer coral-orange that looks amazing on tanned skin, but I think it would suit very fair all the way to very deep complexions as well. Whenever I’m packing for a summer getaway, these Colour Boost Lip Crayons are always the first lip product in my makeup bag. They’re perfect for the beach — so low maintenance and easy to wear. I usually purchase mine at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada (they’re on the department side), or online at ASOS.

8) Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in 2W2 Rattan
C $45.00
I wore Estée Lauder Double Wear religiously for 6+ years when I was having skin issues, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s a full coverage, long-wearing matte foundation that is seriously bulletproof, and I’ve always used it as a benchmark to compare other long-wearing foundations to. Recently, I discovered the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 HR Foundation (review here) and that’s become my new daily foundation. But, this summer I’ve gone back to my beloved Estée Lauder Double Wear because it contains SPF, and I like that little bit of extra reassurance on days when I’m outdoors a lot (even though my moisturizer also contains SPF). I would say that wear time, performance and finish are nearly identical between Estée Lauder Double Wear and L’Oreal Infallible, and the shades are pretty similar, too. I wear 2W2 Rattan in ELDW, and 105 Natural Beige in the Infallible — both are a really great colour match for me (FYI: I’ll always list more information about my skin type and my foundation shade comparisons at the bottom a post, if you have a similar skin tone / type and are curious if my shade might work for you). Combo / oily skinned gals (or boys) that want an awesome, long-wearing summer foundation with SPF; give Estée Lauder Double Wear a try! I like to apply it with a damp Beauty Blender in the summertime to sheer it out for a lighter coverage. The only downside is that it has a nasty flashback / whitecast in flash photography, so stick with the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 HR Foundation for those instances!
I’m wearing Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in 2W2 Rattan.
