TRANSITIONAL STYLE STAPLES | WINTER TO SPRING 2019

The perpetual Extreme Cold Warning finally appears to have lifted here in Calgary — and with temperatures set to rise above O°C this weekend, visions of spring are dancing through my head! Although I typically enjoy dressing for whatever weather mother nature throws our way, after experiencing the 3rd coldest February on record, I’m must admit I’m really looking forward to spring. But because of our cooler, rather temperamental climate, realistically it will be a couple of months before bare legs and open-toed shoes are on the menu. So, what’s a girl to wear while she’s longing for spring but still experiencing wintery weather?!

While I absolutely love to experiment with integrating seasonal trends into my personal style, I also believe a wardrobe built on a foundation of quality basics is essential in order to do so. This fashion philosophy has inspired me to start a brand new series called STYLE STAPLES here at JustineCelina where I’ll be sharing my most worn, most loved, workhorse wardrobe staples, season after season — the ones I would struggle to put outfits together without! Today we’re kicking things off with my favourite winter to spring transitional pieces for 2019 to help you navigate unpredictable weather in practical, stylish garments and accessories you can wear for years to come! This outfit formula works in both personal and professional settings with a few tweaks, flatters a wide range of body types and can be adapted to suit both warmer and cooler climates. RASPBERRY BERET

Whether you’re new to JustineCelina or have been with me for years, my love of colour is evident. In fact, it’s probably my biggest source of inspiration across content categories, in my work and in pretty much every aspect of my life! Year after year as we transition into an extremely colourless late winter, I find myself seeing through proverbial rose-coloured glasses and craving all things pink — in my wardrobe (in fact, I published a look wearing this coat exactly 1 year ago!), beauty routine and even my cocktails! This cozy, feminine, monochromatic look is an ode to my current obsession with all things burgundy and blush — capped off with a quintessential Raspberry Beret!

I’ve had this ‘outfit formula’ on repeat since the holidays and it features a handful of my winter style staples. In fact, you can also see iterations of it here at JustineCelina over the years and throughout the seasons (here, here and here). I’m all about sharing looks I wear in my day-to-day life and this outfit formula is my first choice on cold, casual winter days when I want to be warm and comfortable while still feeling polished! As FASHION and my personal style evolves, I relish in the process of updating my go-to seasonal outfit formulas to keep them fresh, which is exactly what I’ve done for this look. WINTER 2019 LOOKBOOK

Beautiful people, I’m elated to share the first seasonal LOOKBOOK of 2019 here at JustineCelina! If you’re just tuning in and you didn’t catch my 2018 Review + 2019 Goals post last week, you may have missed the announcement that I’ll be producing one, 12 outfit LOOKBOOK seasonally this year to help inspire your sartorial choices — and I couldn’t be more excited about it! Although winter officially arrived about a month ago, we’re now in the heart of the season. Surprisingly, the weather here in Calgary has been very mild and relatively snow-free (most days have been above freezing!) — presenting some unique style options to a girl who’s used to making the most of our long, harsh Canadian winters!

With January sales in full effect and the onset of a new year, now is the perfect time to clean out your closet, identify holes in your wardrobe, get inspired and refine your personal style! As always, this LOOKBOOK features everything I’ve been wearing and loving in both personal and professional settings this season — a melange of high, low, old, new and vintage, along with tons of shoppable links at every price point! Although winter can be an uninspiring time for many in the FASHION department, I use cooler weather as an opportunity to experiment with cozy layers, sumptuous fabrics, unique textures, daring prints and a rich colour palette to create polished looks to take me from day to night. WHAT TO WEAR TO | A HORSE RACE

Welcome back, friends and fashionistas! Today I’ve teamed up with Saks OFF 5TH to bring you a fresh post in my WHAT TO WEAR TO series dedicated to Horse Races — and to announce the Grand Opening of their second location at CF Market Mall! Earlier this summer we had the pleasure of attending Packwood Grand and to be honest, the sartorial aspect of the race excited me much more than the main event! Longtime readers will know I love any excuse to dress up and dress well (which is part of the reason I created my WHAT TO WEAR TO series in the first place!), so I took this unique event as an opportunity to deep dive into horse race appropriate attire and put my own unique spin on the dress code! After hunting for the perfect gingham dress for what seemed like an eternity, low and behold, I found it on Saks OFF 5TH‘s Calvin Klein rack — at just over 50% off, ringing in at $74.99! I’ve always been a fan of gingham and although it’s very on trend at the moment, it’s also a timeless print that lends itself to more traditional occasions and settings. WINTER 2018 TREND GUIDE | VELVET UNDERGROUND

March is upon us, but winter is still very much alive and well here in Alberta. In fact, in all my years living in Calgary, I can’t remember a winter when we’ve had this much snow (I’m not even exaggerating, the piles are taller than I am!). So, what’s a fashionista to do? This year, I resolved not to let old man winter put a damper on my personal style — after all, life must go on and I’m a firm believer in looking and feeling your best, no matter the weather. So, for my final TREND GUIDE of the season, I’m sharing a cozy look featuring some of my favourite luxe, winter fabrics — but I’m also taking cues from SS18 trend forecasts. HOW TO STYLE | MIDI DRESSES FOR WINTER

The time of year has come when winter really seems to drag on. Despite actually having pretty nice weather until late January, the past few weeks the have left a lot to be desired (I was snowed in for 3 days last week!). Mid February is typically when I start to crave the more free flowing, bohemian silhouettes and styles I love to wear during warmer weather — and this year, I was determined to wear those dresses and get really creative with my layering, despite the sub zero temps and snow storms! So today, I’m sharing a new post in my HOW TO STYLE series — and this time, I’m chatting about fresh ways to style your midi dresses for winter, incorporating a mashup of winter and spring trends with wardrobe staples in a boho chic look you can wear right now!

HOW TO STYLE | OVERSIZED KNITS

The bigger the sweater the better… am I right?! This winter, oversized knits are trendier than ever — and I’m all for it. Like any good Canadian girl, I pretty much live in oversized sweaters from November through March — they’re another item I’ve always worn regardless of whether or not they’re particularly on trend. In fact, I love this sweater so much I actually own it in 3 different colours (total repeat offender here!) and they’re by far my most worn knits this season. As an oversized knit aficionado, today I’m thrilled to bring you How to Style | Oversized Knits and share my favourite ways to dress up your knitwear for maximum versatility! Sure, it’s easy to throw on an oversized knit with leggings and OTK boots or your standard skinnies and be out the door (I do this too!), but this winter I’ve been having fun with my oversized knits and getting creative!

Although it’s January, the weather has actually been quite mild and I’m finding myself looking ahead to spring. There’s been a lot of talk here at JustineCelina this year about the Pantone Spring 2018 Fashion Colour Trend Report — I’m really craving (and being inspired by) spring’s onslaught of pastels and brights! Remember all those times I mentioned that pink isn’t really a colour I wear? Well this season, I’m really enjoying all things blush and lavender (seriously… who am I?)!
