COLOUR CRUSH | RED

Do you have a power colour? I’m beginning to think mine is red. Oddly enough, it’s not a hue I’ve worn often over the past 4ish years since rocking my natural hair colour. Back in my (much) younger, platinum blonde days (yes, really — in fact, I’ve had almost every single hair colour except jet black!) red was one of my favourite colours to wear! This year, I’ve been increasingly drawn to red and have incorporated more of this statement shade into my personal style. Fast forward to SS18 and red is everywhere — a classic colour that demands attention, instills confidence and couldn’t be more suited to our scorching summer climate. I’ve always believed that red lips give you superpowers, so just imagine what wearing red-to-toe (ie: wearing red, head to toe) can do for you!

Today’s post is a fresh installment in my COLOUR CRUSH series and my take on a summery, red-to-toe look — along with a crash course on colour theory to help you find your perfect shade of red and master on-trend, monochromatic dressing. The best part? Once you’ve learned the basics, you can apply these tips to any colour or shade if red isn’t your thing! No matter what colour you chose, monochromatic looks are always slimming and sophisticated — and although this bold look was a bit outside of my comfort zone, I’m so glad I went for it! Get ready for a healthy dose of red-hot style inspiration, mashed up with an introduction to a handful of seasonal trends and an update on what to expect FASHION wise here at JustineCelina this summer (hint: get ready for tons of fresh content and the emergence of a brand new series!).

DIGITAL BLOOMS JULY 2018 | FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS

We’re officially half way through 2018 (say what?!) and today Rebecca Dawn Design and I are marking the occasion with a Pantone 2018 Colour of the Year inspired set of Free Tech Wallpapers! You may remember the Ultra Violet Inspired Arrangement we created this past winter to explore Pantone’s selection for 2018, but we also wanted to do something summery, festive and fun. July 2018’s Digital Blooms actually feature a lovely selection of blooms and foliage we found in Rebecca’s garden! Despite the planning that goes into creating cohesive colour stories here at JustineCelina, allowing the seasons and our surroundings to inspire our FLOWER content is one of my favourite things — and it just goes to show you that beauty can be found (and created) almost anywhere. July’s DIGITAL BLOOMS go to show that foraged flowers are just as lovely as store bought blooms (remember that Foraged Prairie Wildflower Bouquet we created a couple of summers ago?!).

We’re celebrating Canada Day with a spirited selection summer’s candy coloured brights (more on this trend coming to my FASHION department soon!), juxtaposed with Pantone’s 2018 Ultra Violet. Acquaint yourself with Irises, Matsumoto Asters, Veronica, Freesia, Allium and Cornflower in July’s tech wallpaper offerings — heavily inspired by the Pantone Spring 2018 Fashion Colour Trend Report. Give your tech a jubilant update and click through to choose from 3 free floral tech wallpapers to enjoy on the background of your computer, tablet or phone all month long!

JUNE 2018 SOUNDTRACK

Happy Canada Day long weekend, friends! What’s everyone up to? We’re enjoying some time with my family in the country — enjoy the tranquility of the prairies and doing some cocktail testing (get ready for a refreshing summer recipe coming your way later this month!). Whatever your Canada Long Weekend holds, I have the ultimate soundtrack for you! My June 2018 Soundtrack includes over 3 hours of easy listening grooves spanning genres — with a healthy dose of folky, bluegrass inspired vibes thrown in for good measure. I recently discovered Spotify’s Stay Wild playlist and it decorated the majority of this past week while I worked away on the second installment of my What to Wear to | The Calgary Stampede post — hence the uptick of tasteful twang at the tail end of this playlist!

While I love every track in include in these Monthly Soundtracks, this month, SACRE’s Lemonade, Polo & Pan’s Arc-en-ciel, Mura Kami’s Your Voice, AQUA STONE THRONE’S 3 Ways, Tadashi’s When You’re Ready, L’indécis’s God Behind The Pines, Bath’s Extra Solar, Alina Baraz’s I Don’t Even Know Why Though, The American Dollar’s Carousel (a new-to-me band with an Explosion’s In The Sky vibe!), Coubo’s Good Morning, The East Pointer’s Two Weeks, Sony Alven’s remix of Boardwalk, Yoke Lore’s Beige and PYNKIE’s Dew. Wishing you all a fun (and safe!) Canada Day long weekend!

EXPLORING EAST VILLAGE JUNCTION WITH TOURISM CALGARY

Happy Friday, friends! Things were a bit quiet here at JustineCelina during early June — and whenever that happens, I promise it’s for good reason! DIGITAL BLOOMS JUNE 2018 | FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS

Well hey there, June! Summer is only a few weeks away and Rebecca Dawn Design and I are celebrating with the ultimate soft, dreamy, pastel, watercolour inspired edition of DIGITAL BLOOMS! I’m obviously partial to these shades as they mimic my personal brand here at JustineCelina — and I have to say this is one of my favourite sets of free floral downloads we’ve created over the years. As I’m sure you’ve noticed (just look at my content over the past couple of months!) pastels are everywhere this spring and summer, so this month we curated a dreamy selection of Willow Eucalyptus, blue Delphiniums, lavender Garden Roses, creamy Pom Pom Chrysanthemums, pink Alstroemeria, blush Hyacinths, magenta Tulips and coral Asiatic lilies to create a beautiful, watercolour inspired ombre effect. Embrace the softer side of summer flowers and bring a harmonious, uplifting vibe to your tech with our June 2018 Digital Blooms!

You probably guessed it, this pastel wonderland was inspired by the Pantone Spring 2018 Colour Trend Report! I’ve been particularly inspired by lavender and lilac hues lately (OMG, the lilacs are so gorgeous right now!) and have been incorporating them into my creative work, home, wardrobe and even my beauty routine lately (more on that coming soon!). Freshen up your tech for a brand new season by clicking through to download a floral tech wallpaper to the background of your computer, tablet or phone — absolutely free, no strings attached.

SEPTEMBER 2017 SOUNDTRACK

Happy Saturday, everyone! I’m really not quite sure how it’s the last day of September… but that means it’s time for a fresh playlist! September was an extremely busy month for me and this was the soundtrack that kept me going as it roared by. My September 2017 Soundtrack is a 3 hour playlist of everything that delighted my ears last month — from easy listening instrumental, to emerging alternative, to chill deep house to a sprinkling of hip hop and R&B. There are also new releases from a couple of my favourite artists this month, including Alt-J and ODESZA. My September 2017 Soundtrack is an easy listening playlist full of good vibes — perfect background music for whatever you’re up to this weekend!

My favourite tunes of September were Bora York and Kuebiko’s Open Tales, a cool, stripped down rendition of The Postal Service’s Brand New Colony, Liyv’s Like You Mean It, Jason Nolan’s Batu, a live, Spotify exclusive recording of The War on Drug’s Accidentally Like a Martyr, ZHU’s Chasing Marrakech, Kidwaste and TRACE’s Friends, Petit Biscuit’s Gravitation, Julian Lamadrid’s The Back Room, Coast Modern’s Dive, Staffaloo’s Throw Me To The Wolves, ODESZA’s Show Me, Galimatias’s Blow Back, Ella Vos’s Rearrange, REGN’s WATR, Pool Cosby and crew’s Please, Mishegas Have Me, Babygirl’s Tomorrow Tomorrow, an elegant cover of Brand New’s Jesus Christ, Freedom Fly’s Adios Amigos, Bay Ledges Tween Love, Bien’s The Best Part and slenderbodies anemone. I hope you enjoy this 50 track playlist!

SUPERFOOD PEACH PIE SMOOTHIE BOWLS

Are you ready for autumn, friends? It’s been a crazy hot, smoky summer this year and I never thought I would say it, but I’m finally ready for fall. I had 2 food related epiphanies as I worked on this post — first, I really seem to love creating dessert-inspired breakfast recipes (I mean… who doesn’t love pie for breakfast?!) and second, I’ve never published a peach recipe here at JustineCelina. If you knew just how much I loved peaches, you’d be as shocked as I am! Each year we receive a shipment of peaches straight from a family friend’s orchard in British Columbia (if you’re keeping track, yes – it’s the same orchard where our apple surplus and endless supply of homemade stewed tomatoes come from!). It seems every year I find a different way to work with them and they end up trickling into almost every meal for a week or two until we get through them all. And alas, another seasonal recipe is born!

Today I’m bringing you my Superfood Peach Pie Smoothie Bowls — a simple, seasonal breakfast bowl inspired by the classic late summer pie and brimming with powerhouse ingredients, plant based protein, antioxidants and healing, autumnal spices. The best part? If you, too are experiencing peach overload, this recipe actually gives variations for frozen and fresh peaches (I just finished freezing a whole ziplock bag full!). I even snuck a vegetable in there — if you’ve made my Cherry Crumble Smoothie or Autumn Energizer Juice, you may have an idea what it is! Try my Superfood Peach Pie Smoothie Bowls while those juicy Okanagan peaches are at peak ripeness or freeze them now and indulge in a peach pie inspired smoothie bowl anytime you want to treat yourself to a quick, nourishing breakfast this autumn. As always, it’s free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar — and absolutely delish!
