WINTER BOHO + HOW TO SHOP FOR GREAT VINTAGE

Lately, I’ve been reviewing my photo archives and lusting after the more carefree, bohemian styles of summer and autumn. My very first fashion post for JustineCelina is still one of my favourites! So today I’m chatting about wearing bohemian styles in cooler temperatures. You’ll find me pretty much living in maxi dresses in the summer, so I wanted to show you can style them for winter, too. In Calgary the weather is right around the 10° mark and things are starting to thaw out (see that hint of green on the ground?!) — so wardrobe options begin to open up. It’s nice not having to be totally bundled all the time, and start experimenting with layering again! I really love a good faux fur vest, and one of my favourite ways to wear them in the late winter and early fall is to pair them up with maxi dresses. I also give you a simple braided hairstyle idea, and my tips on how to shop for great vintage!

COZY IN CAMEL | MY FAVOURITE TRANSITIONAL PIECES

I always find that February is a difficult month, fashion-wise! It’s not the dead of winter anymore, but it’s also definitely not spring. Here in Calgary the weather has been pretty mild, but there’s still snow on the ground (and let’s be real — it could still snow anytime!). At this time of year I get sick of wearing pants and crave the more feminine silhouettes of spring — dresses and skirts! I find myself reaching for a lot of neutral tones, but punching my look up with bold accessories and statement lips (especially since I’ve been so obsessed with pink, but am picky about wearing it!). I’ve mentioned before that the core of my wardrobe consists of pieces that I can wear for both work and play — this outfit is an example of something I’d wear if I was hanging out with friends, or headed to a business meeting. Today I’m sharing my favourite transitional pieces from winter-to-spring in Alberta!

January 2016 Soundtrack // JustineCelina.com

JANUARY SOUNDTRACK

My January Soundtrack is full of happy, eclectic, beachy tunes — I’ve been transporting myself away from our cold Alberta winters via music (in stark contrast to this month’s album cover!). I feel like I was really on my musical game in January and discovered so many new artists via Sirius XM. I have a few favourite channels that I listen to while I work, and I did so much Shazamming this month! A couple of standout tracks include Tor Miller‘s Carter & Cash, ARIZONA‘s Where I Wanna Be and Beach Slang‘s Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas. This is great, upbeat, thinking and creating music! If you give it a listen, let me know what your favourite tracks are — you can stream this soundtrack across your devices, right from this post.

WINTER BREAKFAST BOWL WITH PUMPKIN SPICE STEEL CUT OATS

Whenever it’s cold outside, I love to make steel cut oats for breakfast. They’re a little more time consuming to prepare, but the texture and taste are unmatched! My Winter Breakfast Bowl with Pumpkin Spice Steel Cut Oats combines warming spices with my favourite seasonal superfoods. Homemade Pumpkin Puree subtly flavours the steel cut oats, while a splash of coconut cream adds richness and decadence. This breakfast bowl is a harmonious medley of textures, colours, flavours and aromas — it’s a true delight to the senses! I’ve also included instructions on how to layer it in a mason jar, so you can make it the night before and take it to go in the morning. Put on your favourite cozy sweater and treat yourself to a comforting, nourishing winter breakfast!
