DIGITAL BLOOMS MARCH 2019 | FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPER

Apparently spring is just around the corner — hey Calgary, did you get the memo?! While winter is still alive and well here on the Alberta prairies,  Rebecca Dawn Design and I are eagerly awaiting spring’s arrival with the March 2019 edition of DIGITAL BLOOMS! This month’s design incorporates the best of both winter and spring to create a stunning juxtaposition of blooms, berries and greenery in an ethereal, pastel palette with a sprinkling of dramatic jewel tones. Like the month of March, this floral desktop wallpaper is a little bit winter and a little bit spring — but the results are absolutely stunning!

March’s free tech wallpaper includes stunning Keira and Patience Garden Roses (learn all about roses), Ranunculus (learn all about ranunculus) foraged black berries and greenery. Click through to download a free floral tech wallpaper celebrating the transitioning seasons — absolutely no strings attached! It may still be winter outside, but you can bring the uplifting essence of spring to the background of your computer, tablet or phone with just a few simple clicks.

FEBRUARY 2019 SOUNDTRACK

The shortest (and coldest!) month of the year is drawing to a close — and that means it’s time for my February 2019 Soundtrack! This cozy, intimate, 43 track playlist makes perfect background music for the office, your daily commute, relaxing at home or entertaining. It’s an eclectic, upbeat, chill mixture of everything I’ve had on repeat for the past month spanning genres — with a heavy focus on instrumental with a free spirited, folk-y twist!

I discovered tons of new tracks during February (and new music from a few of my favourite artists!), but Beauvois’s Fall Back, Anna of the North’s Leaning on Myself, Brett’s Tenenbaum, Star Slinger’s Choose Yourself (like the modern day version of Everybody’s Free To Wear Sunscreen for creatives — anyone else remember that song?!), Richard Houghten’s Wind Travel, Koresma’s Canyon Walls, Arms and Sleepers I Miss The Melody Of, Dermot’s Kennedy’s After Rain, Roo Pains Silver Moon, Rand Aldo’s Tomorrow Will Save Us, Airwaves You Gotta Keep Moving, Astron’s Astral Projection, alt-J’s Warm Foothills, Villager’s Nothing Arrived, Jay Wolf & Day Wave’s Your Way, EREZ’s Runnin, Tim Legend’s When The World Ended and RKCB’s Flowers for Vases were on heavy rotation. Cozy up in front of the fireplace with a delicious glass of red wine or your favourite herbal tea and indulge your ears in the sweet musical styling of February’s Monthly Soundtrack!

PATTERN PLAY | CHAIN PRINT

Friends and fashionistas, welcome back for a fresh installment in my PATTERN PLAY series, dedicated to all things chain print! If you keep an eye on fashion trends, you’ll likely have noticed a surge of chain print trickling into your favourite retailers since the onset of autumn — and it’s hotter than ever as we transition into spring. Although this vintage feeling, designer-inspired print has always had a place in my wardrobe (namely in my vintage scarf collection!), I was thrilled to see its reemergence this season in so many fresh interpretations. That said, I always ensure trends have longevity before integrating them into my personal style and bringing them to JustineCelina — and can confidently declare that chain print here to stay!

While this bold, attention grabbing pattern definitely makes a statement, chain printed garments and accessories are popping up in nearly every colour, scale and fabric imaginable — there’s truly something for everyone. Because of the wide range of chain print currently available, I now consider it a seasonless pattern that works year-round! I’m a firm believer that if you’re intrigued by a print, there’s a way to make it work for you — incorporating it into your personal style in a way that compliments your lifestyle, preferences, body type and budget. Whether you’re ready to shackle yourself in chain print this season, simply want to learn more about upcoming SS19 trends (plus, how you can start wearing them right now!), or are here for my best styling tips to make your midi and maxi hemlines work during the depths of winter, you’ll love today’s post!

GINGERED CARA CARA GRAPEFRUIT PALOMA

Clean COCKTAIL lovers, I’m back with 2019’s first better-for-you libation! I’ve actually been testing my Gingered Cara Cara Grapefruit Paloma since last February — but because my recipe testing process is so intense, believe it or not, my star ingredients went out of season by the time I had it perfected (call me crazy, but that’s how committed I am to the perfect cocktail!). So, I waited until the height of citrus season this year to publish the recipe — and I’m so glad I did, because the results are absolutely delicious!

Have you ever had (or heard of) a Paloma? In true JustineCelina style, I’ve elevated this traditional Mexican cocktail with a fresh, plant-based, seasonal spin. My Gingered Cara Cara Grapefruit Paloma is a simple, refined sugar free, 6 ingredient ode to citrus season in cocktail form! Freshly squeezed Cara Cara orange, Ruby Red grapefruit and vibrant lime juice combine with Reposado tequila, spicy ginger beer and a Himalayan pink salted rim to create a jubilant, citrus-centric tipple bursting with vivacious Spanish flavour. Escape the depths of our Canadian winter and transport yourself to a sun-drenched, white sandy beach in just 10 minutes — no plane tickets required!

By now, you’ve likely heard about 2019’s hottest hue — either here at JustineCelina, or elsewhere online. As a creative professional, I’ve followed PANTONE (the global colour authority for creative industries) for inspiration my entire career. In fact, I even have a section dedicated to them here on the blog to categorize all my PANTONE inspired work throughout the years! As someone who’s very inspired by colour, I love to stay informed about the latest colour trends and allow them to inspire, challenge and push my creative work.

As you can probably imagine, I’m particularly passionate about PANTONE’s selection for 2019! If you’re craving a serious dose of colour to help see you through these final wintery months as we (slowly but surely!) transition into spring, today’s post is an ode to Pantone’s 2019 Colour of the Year. RASPBERRY BERET

Whether you’re new to JustineCelina or have been with me for years, my love of colour is evident. In fact, it’s probably my biggest source of inspiration across content categories, in my work and in pretty much every aspect of my life! Year after year as we transition into an extremely colourless late winter, I find myself seeing through proverbial rose-coloured glasses and craving all things pink in my wardrobe (in fact, I published a look wearing this coat exactly 1 year ago!), beauty routine and even my cocktails! This cozy, feminine, monochromatic look is an ode to my current obsession with all things burgundy and blush — capped off with a quintessential Raspberry Beret!

I’ve had this ‘outfit formula’ on repeat since the holidays and it features a handful of my winter style staples. In fact, you can also see iterations of it here at JustineCelina over the years and throughout the seasons (here, here and here). I’m all about sharing looks I wear in my day-to-day life and this outfit formula is my first choice on cold, casual winter days when I want to be warm and comfortable while still feeling polished! As FASHION and my personal style evolves, I relish in the process of updating my go-to seasonal outfit formulas to keep them fresh, which is exactly what I’ve done for this look. If you’re craving some laid-back Valentine’s Day outfit inspiration for cooler climates, curious about my favourite source for faux leather leggings, the super soft knits I’ve been living in lately, my holy grail lipsticks, where I score incredible deals on designer shoes (and the it bag of the season!) or how to style a teddy coat for winter, you’ve come to the right place!

SLOW COOKER VEGAN MULLIGATAWNY SOUP WITH RED LENTILS

I’m typing to you from the fringe of the 2019 polar vortex here in Calgary — and man, it’s cold outside (guess I spoke too soon about our unseasonably mild winter weather!). I’m very content to be curled up with a big bowl of Slow Cooker Vegan Mulligatawny Soup with Red Lentils in my chenille sweatpants and fuzzy sock as I edit this post! I hope everyone in affected areas is staying warm, cozy and safe out there.

But what better time than a polar vortex to make a hearty slow cooker recipe, am I right?! Warm up with a batch of my Slow Cooker Vegan Mulligatawny Soup with Red Lentils — an ultra clean, nourishing, protein packed, plant-based spin on a classic English soup with South Indian roots. The best part? You likely have most (if not all!) of these ingredients on hand and this recipe truly couldn’t be easier! A hearty base of red lentils combines with a mirepoix of carrots, celery, onion and apple simmered in an rich, exotically spiced, tomato-based broth with a splash of coconut milk and a kiss of cinnamon. Juicy pomegranate arils, toasted cashews and fresh cilantro garnish my favourite winter soup to perfection — creating a beautiful mosaic of inviting flavour, texture and colour where hearty winter produce sings. If you love vegetable-based curries and warming winter soups but want to try something new, this playful, plant-powered spin on authentic Indian mulligatawny is for you!
