I’m totally obsessed with winter pastels! I’ve been going lighter, brighter and fresher in my wardrobe and personal style this winter — did you notice JustineCelina‘s mini makeover? My love for all things pastel was solidified by the Pantone 2016 Colour of the Year Announcement (check out my inspiration post for some colour trend eye candy), so today I’m sharing a pastel-themed fashion post with you! I think adding pops of pastel to your winter wardrobe is a great way to freshen up your look. So when I spotted this Moto Cocoon Coat from Banana Republic, I fell head over heels. The colour, the silhouette, and the quality of this unique winter coat are incredible! I’m always on the hunt for something different, and in Canada I’m sure we can all agree a warm winter coat is essential. So why not invest in statement piece that keeps you cozy? Read more for my tips on how to wear winter pastels!

I’ve never had so many compliments on a winter coat as I have on this one. It’s a minty breath of fresh air in a sea of wintery black and grey! So many people have stopped me on the street to ask for details. Real talk: when I first spotted this coat, I experienced a little sticker shock! At full price, this coat is definitely an investment. I’m always on the hunt for deals, so luckily I was able to snag this coat at 40% off during a sale. Banana Republic has sales quite often, especially online. So my best piece of advice is if you fall in love with an item that’s too expensive, wait for a sale. You can usually get what you want within your budget! And if you absolutely cannot stop thinking about a particular item, you should grab it! I’d rather have a few coats that I absolutely love, than a closet full of coats I feel lukewarm about. This one gives me fireworks! At the time I published this post, the Moto Cocoon Coat is on major discount, so if you love it as much as I do, grab it while you still can — I think they’re clearing it out!
If you’ve been with me for awhile, you know I love to mix high and low. I’m wearing the Moto Cocoon Coat with an inexpensive pair of white denim that fits like a glove. Since the coat is so oversized on top, I like the proportion and balance these white skinny jeans give the outfit.
I personally think that the trick to wearing winter pastels and whites is to anchor the look with dark accessories. I’ve paired my favourite Steve Madden booties (which are sadly no longer available, but I’ve linked similar pairs here and here) with this look, along with the Varina Clutch from Aldo. My Forever 21 watch is sleek and simple — I love the way the rose gold tones pop and compliment the mint coat.
My shades have a bit of a futuristic vibe. I love lighter coloured frames when I want to let another piece I’m wearing make the statement. I find these sunglasses surprisingly versatile!
I’ve also been loving lighter, brighter lip colours this winter. Here I’m wearing the Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Biscayne Park — it’s a light, warm pink that falls within the pastel category without making me look washed out.

I dreaded the decline of the pastel trend, but as soon as I saw Pantone’s selections for the year, I knew they weren’t going anywhere! So excited! I love the mint coat on you and it looks so great in the snow-covered field with the analogous blue sky above. I also completely agree that statement coats are where it’s at. Price per wear makes it totally worth a splurge and you can throw it on top of just about anything and look amazing, just like you do here :).
Thanks for the comment, Anneke! You always leave the most thoughtful comments and I love your input on my style posts. I totally agree about pastels — I think Pantone really got it right this year. By the way, your exposed zipper coats are gorgeous. I especially love the ivory one with the gold details!
Thanks so much Justine! I plan to start making ready-to-wear soon, which means I’ll have size options for bloggers to pull from. When the ivory one gets created in a size run, I’ll be in touch about a collaboration :).
I’d love that! 🙂 Best of luck with the ready-to-wear production.
Excellent! I’ll keep you posted :).
What size is your coat?
Hi Michelle, I’m wearing an XS here. The fit is quite roomy and is meant to be oversized, as you can see. Typically I wear a 0 -2 or XS – S.
