Happy Autumn Equinox, everyone! Today I’m saying farewell to summer and welcoming fall with the second installment in my PATTERN PLAY series, dedicated to one of my favourite prints — stripes! Remember when I mentioned that I took some time to get re-inspired style content wise this summer and was planning to bring you more comprehensive, multi outfit posts to JustineCelina? Well, this is the first of many! I’m kicking things off today by rounding up all the different ways I wore stripes this summer, highlighting key stripe trends and colours I’ll be wearing into autumn as well as sharing shoppable links for my transitional striped wardrobe (plus my AW18 wishlist!).
When I look back on all the content we captured this summer, one thing is very apparent — I wore a lot of stripes! These past few months I really took my commitment to getting back to a way of living and working in a way that nurtures my passions seriously — which included lots of time spent outdoors with friends and family. I also switched things up and shot more style content in the moment whenever possible! I wore stripes from the prairies, to farmers markets, to berry pick, to mountain lakes and just about everywhere in between. They’re such a versatile print that can be worn in both personal and professional settings, ranging from classic and understated to bright and bold — a true chameleon print! If you’re a stripe lover or are looking for some fresh styling ideas to incorporate stripes into your autumn wardrobe, join me today for a crash course in all things striped!
Do you have a power colour? I’m beginning to think mine is red. Oddly enough, it’s not a hue I’ve worn often over the past 4ish years since rocking my natural hair colour. Back in my (much) younger, platinum blonde days (yes, really — in fact, I’ve had almost every single hair colour except jet black!) red was one of my favourite colours to wear! This year, I’ve been increasingly drawn to red and have incorporated more of this statement shade into my personal style. Fast forward to SS18 and red is everywhere — a classic colour that demands attention, instills confidence and couldn’t be more suited to our scorching summer climate. I’ve always believed that red lips give you superpowers, so just imagine what wearing red-to-toe (ie: wearing red, head to toe) can do for you!
Today’s post is a fresh installment in my COLOUR CRUSH series and my take on a summery, red-to-toe look — along with a crash course on colour theory to help you find your perfect shade of red and master on-trend, monochromatic dressing. The best part? Once you’ve learned the basics, you can apply these tips to any colour or shade if red isn’t your thing! No matter what colour you chose, monochromatic looks are always slimming and sophisticated — and although this bold look was a bit outside of my comfort zone, I’m so glad I went for it! Get ready for a healthy dose of red-hot style inspiration, mashed up with an introduction to a handful of seasonal trends and an update on what to expect FASHION wise here at JustineCelina this summer (hint: get ready for tons of fresh content and the emergence of a brand new series!).
Fashionistas, welcome back for my final TREND GUIDE of Spring 2018 — dedicated to my recent obsession with all things lavender (if you’ve been following along this spring, you probably saw this coming!). It’s been an exceptionally busy couple of weeks (I’ll be sharing some fun projects I’ve been working on BTS with you soon!), but before the lilacs faded, we managed to pop out to shoot some new style content in my hometown of Strathmore, Alberta. In fact, we squeezed this shoot into the only free hour we had on our way to Brooks to celebrate a birthday — I had to paint my nails at a sequence of red lights on my way out of the city (yes, I was driving!). All things considered, I love the way these images came out!
Regardless of current trends (or the season, for that matter!), a beautiful, flowy top (which I love so much I picked it up in 2 other colours and ordered one for my Mom!), skinny jeans, comfortable, low heels, a cute bag and a great pair of shades is what you’ll find me in on most spring weekends or casual days — another one of my go-to outfit formulas that’s ultra wearable, yet polished. But this spring, I’ve updated this classic look with a selection of seasonal trends and fresh accessories including lavender, pleats, fluted sleeves, straw bags, block heels, coin necklaces and pearls! If you want to dip your toes into the lavender trend but aren’t sure where to start, stay tuned for a few tips that will help you integrate this of-the-moment hue into your wardrobe or beauty routine this season — even if you’re not sure it’s a colour you can pull off (because you totally can!). Today I’m sharing a handful of my favourite trend highlights to carry you from spring into summer (and beyond) in style!
Year after year as we approach Valentine’s Day, I find myself seeing through proverbial rose-coloured glasses and craving all things pink! And during the almost 5 years I’ve been blogging here at JustineCelina, I’ve created a plethora of dreamy, pink themed content. From what I wear, to the beauty products and fragrances I chose, to the flowers I bring into my home (or to my screen!), to what I eat and drink to how I entertain and practice self care, I love to incorporate February’s quintessential hue into Valentine’s Day — no matter what I’m up to!
Whether you’re in search of pink Valentine’s Day outfit ideas, the perfect pink lipstick, gift ideas for your significant other, pretty cocktails, seductive fragrances, plant-based pink recipes, flower arranging tips, self care ideas, or Galentine’s Day entertaining inspiration, I’ve got you covered! Welcome back for the next highly anticipated reveal in our SPACE REFRESH series, friends! This project has been a year in the making — and today, in partnership with Mobilia Canada, I’m elated to bring you our refreshed Entrance Way! By far, this has been the most challenging room in our SPACE REFRESH series to date. Although it’s responsible for the first impression upon opening the door to our home, it was anything but welcoming before we embarked on this journey back in November of 2018. In stark contrast to the expansive, airy, natural-light-filled rooms you’re used to seeing on these pages, our Entrance Way was exactly the opposite — dark and choppy with just a speck of natural light (just wait until you see the BEFORE photos!). In fact, when we first viewed this apartment before purchasing it 7 years ago, I nearly turned around and walked out — but I’m so glad I didn’t!
You see, all those bright, south-facing, beautifully lit living areas, bedrooms and offices were just past the dimly lit Entrance Way, down a couple of long hallways — which is typical of apartment floor plans. Despite its shortcomings, I was determined we could achieve the welcoming first impression I’d always dreamt of by transforming this space into a bright, welcoming, functional room that felt cohesive with the rest of the apartment. Our Space Refresh | Entrance Way Reveal is a complete overhaul — from a fresh coat of paint, to new light fixtures, to gorgeous new furniture (generously provided by Mobilia), to decor and even a few DIYs! If you have an awkward, uninspiring room in your home in desperate need of a makeover and are searching for some fresh ideas, you’ve come to the right place! Today I’m detailing the entire design process from mood boarding to paint and furniture selection, sprinkled with all my best small-space, storage maximizing tips. So although you may already be familiar with our home, I’d like to formally welcome to our bohemian-meets-mid-century, inner city apartment — may I take your coat?
Fall fashion lovers, welcome back for a fresh instalment in my STYLE STAPLES series — this time, highlighting the more casual side of my personal style! We enjoyed this past Thanksgiving weekend completely unplugged in the country — and although I was device free, I brought my professional camera along. I actually had no intention of capturing style content last weekend, but rather, was hoping for some nice family photos since it had been forever since we’d taken some (we’re talking 5+ years!). Adam isn’t really into being in front of the camera too often — so when he agreed to sneak in a couple of quick photos before heading to Brooks for our second Thanksgiving dinner, my Mom and I killed some time while he was getting ready (believe it or not I’m usually ready before he is!) and also captured what I was wearing. Although this post wasn’t originally part of my editorial calendar, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share a fresh instalment in my STYLE STAPLES series dedicated to relaxed, comfortable fall fashion (the family dog, Charlie, even makes an appearance!).
My Casual Fall Style Staples are my most worn, most loved seasonal pieces that combine to create my go-to casual fall outfit formula — one I’ve worn various iterations of here at JustineCelina throughout the years! Longtime readers will know that while I absolutely love to dress up, I also love to dress well for more casual occasions. Today I’m sharing what I wore to Thanksgiving Dinner, complete with my absolute favourite fall wardrobe staples and elevated basics — the ones I look forward to repurchasing each year in new colours and textures! This laidback, bohemian look combines core pieces from my casual autumn wardrobe to create an outfit perfect for holiday family dinners, or anytime I want to look put together, but be comfortable and cozy (because I don’t believe they should be mutually exclusive). And as always, it’s a mixture of high, low, old (even vintage!) and new. Come along to my childhood home in rural Alberta to chat easygoing fall fashion amongst the yellowing Aspen trees and swaying tall grass!
With Autumn Equinox behind us and my favourite month of the year coming to a close, I’m back today with a bonus, 6 outfit, Transitional Summer to Fall 2019 Lookbook! If you’ve been following along with my style content this year, you’ll know I committed to producing one, 12 outfit seasonal LOOKBOOK here at JustineCelina in 2019. That said, since fall (and this gorgeous month when summer turns to fall!) is the season I feel most inspired FASHION wise, I created this mini transitional lookbook to celebrate the sartorial nuances I adore when blending the best of both seasons!
It’s the magical time of year when we can wear boots with bare legs, espadrilles with chunky knits, felt hats with chiffon, embroidery with corduroy and velvet with florals — and I’m fully embracing it! If you’re ready for a healthy dose of fall fashion and seasonal colour trends but not quite ready to retire your favourite summer pieces, you’ve come to the right place! My Transitional Summer to Fall 2019 Lookbook features everything I’ve been wearing in both personal and professional settings this month — complete with tons of transitional styling advice and shoppable links at every price point, set against a gorgeous backdrop of our changing inner-city Calgary landscape.
