I kept flip flopping back and forth about this post — and that’s part of the reason it’s getting to you on February 1st, rather than January 1st. Should I just publish the TREND GUIDE I had originally planned for these photos? Should I save these thoughts for a traditional New Year, New Goals style post, or my 3rd Blogiversary? Should I open up about all these things? Or should I just proceed with regularly scheduled programming? Do people like more personal posts? Is it okay to publish 2 posts in one day? Will anyone even notice or care?
These are exactly the kind of over analytical, consuming thoughts that I can pretty much guarantee all creatives, bloggers and content creators have faced at one point or another while they’re in the process of creating whatever it is they create. But today, instead of the FASHION content I had originally written to accompany these images, I’m going to share something that’s been on my heart and my mind for the entire month of January. This year, there will be no New Year, New Goals post, like I’ve published every January since starting JustineCelina almost 3 years ago. There aren’t any styled flatlays with planners, coffee and flowers today — because here’s the truth. If you want to make real changes in your life, all the planners, scheduling tools and cute stationary in the world won’t do it for you. Only you can do that for yourself. So today, it’s just me.

As you may have gathered, the last couple of months have been intense BEAUTY wise here at JustineCelina — I’m elated to continue my partnership with Sephora Canada into 2017 and have been testing products like crazy. I’ve also been testing new drugstore products as well (if you joined me over on Insta Stories one random Friday afternoon last month where I unboxed and gave my first impressions on a ton of new goodies I picked up from Wet n Wild, you know what I’m talking about!). It’s been a week since my last post because I decided to take this weekend off from blogging. It was a combination of events that led me to decide another unplugged weekend was exactly what I needed (nothing serious, but I definitely needed the time away!). Happy May long weekend, Canadian friends! I wanted to check in quickly to let you know we’re headed to the Kootenays for a week of off-the-grid relaxation. After a very busy past 2 months, Adam and I both had the opportunity to take a full week off at the same time — and we jumped on it! We booked the cutest lakeside cabin where I’ll be enjoying my first completely unplugged, work-free vacation since starting JustineCelina over 4 years ago. To say it’s long overdue is a major understatement!
Although I originally had a number of posts planned for this upcoming week, for once I actually haven’t pre-scheduled content. Instead, I’m taking the opportunity to hit pause, recharge and reconnect — something I hope you’re all able to do this weekend as well, because it’s so important. I’ll be back in action the week of May 27th with tons of fresh content, a refreshed mindset and a restocked wine rack! This year, one of my goals is to get more of my tried and true recipes out of my recipe box and onto these pages. I currently have 50+ recipes in my archives and am always whipping up something new, but eventually I will get around to sharing them all (I’m also working on a fun recipe-based project, set to launch later this year!). My Vegan Cardamom Carrot Cake Smoothie is an ancient recipe hailing from my pre-blogging days when I used to just post my recipes on Instagram with pictures I took on my iPhone. It became a fast favourite in our kitchen that we eventually forgot about during the process of starting JustineCelina and deep-diving into recipe development. Earlier this year I pulled this recipe out of my archives and threw it back into testing so I could finally publish it this spring — and I’m so glad I did, because this rediscovered gem has become a staple!

Despite best laid plans, April always seems to be our busiest month. Although I’m committed to my goal of 5+ blog posts monthly in 2019 (read more about my goals and what I’ve been working on BTS), things have been quiet here at JustineCelina since mid-month — and for good reason! Between tax season (I went to art school, but thankfully Adam is an accountant!), tail ends of client projects, Easter and a lot of planning for upcoming partnerships, the past 2 weeks have been incredibly busy. I had a few posts scheduled, but it was a much more productive use of time to prioritize the business side of things while staying on top of my health and wellness (I’ve also still managed 3+ workout per week!). There were a lot of late nights and early mornings this month with ultra chill, relaxing, ambient tunes streaming through my speakers — and I’ve channeled them all into my April 2019 Soundtrack!
Without a doubt, this is definitely the chillest playlist I’ve ever published. I’m constantly listening to music while I work away — reading, writing, editing, planning, designing, photographing, conceptualizing (and list goes on!). This is why I gravitate towards music that encourages creative thought with minimal lyrics — and I discovered tons of new Spotify playlists to help keep my mind calm and focused. I’ve pulled my favourite tracks into this mellow, feel-good, 55 track playlist — if you’ve got a massive to-do list to tackle and are looking for some inspiring tunes to decorate your time, this soundtrack is for you!
Friends, welcome back for another Monthly Soundtrack! March was a very full month, brimming with tons of behind-the-scenes work — and my 2.5 hour March 2019 Soundtrack was pumping through the speakers the whole time! As the snow starts to melt, I find myself yearning for upbeat, uplifting, empowering music to ease the winter-to-spring transition — and I found so many incredible tracks this month to help me stay focused and inspired to continue working towards my goals. I also discovered Spotify’s Morning Motivation playlist and I’m convinced it made all those 5am starts more productive!
