JANUARY 2017 BEAUTY FAVOURITES

Well hello, beautiful people! Today I’m sharing my January 2017 Beauty Favourites — and it’s been almost a month since my last beauty post! You may have read that I’ve been doing some major purging and reorganizing in preparation for the SPACE REFRESH I have planned this year. This also included a complete overhaul of my makeup collection! I spent a large part of January sorting, donating and making an effort to rediscover forgotten products while exploring the holiday gift sets I purchased back in December (I purchased most of them for gifting, but kept a few items for myself!). There are a lot of minis in today’s post!

This January, it was back to basics in the beauty department. I spent a lot of time planning for 2017 (including lots of exciting new beauty content that I can’t wait to share!) and working behind the scenes, so overall it was a pretty minimal month for me makeup wise and my favourites definitely reflect that. It’s also been insanely dry here in Calgary this winter (YYC gals, I know you feel me!), so I was drawn to lightweight, slightly hydrating and more natural products to help combat winter skin. I also had a chance to explore the mini fragrance kits I picked up December (I’ve been wearing a few new fragrances each week and it’s been so much fun!) so I have a couple of new fragrance favourites as well. If you’re looking or some great winter basics, get cozy on this chilly February afternoon and let’s chat beauty!

JANUARY 2017 SOUNDTRACK

Welcome back for the first installment of my 2017 Monthly Soundtracks here at JustineCelina! January was a reflective, low key, work-behind-the-scenes type of month for me, so January’s soundtrack is pretty mellow. I love to listen to feel-good, instrumental, electronic music when I’m thinking, working and creating — so if you’re looking for some fresh tunes to help inspire you creatively, give my January 2017 Soundtrack a listen!

Standout tracks this month include Mating Ritual’s How You Gonna Stop It?, Haarm’s In The Wild, Stalgia’s Heaven + Mimosas, Anna Renee’s What You Seek, Swim Team’s I’ll Always Come Back, Port Cities On The Nights You Stay Home, Chauncey Jack’s LZYMTHRFCKR, The Chainsmoker’s Paris, Infinitefreefall’s Beautiful People, Wush’s Wave, Vanshire’s Driftless, Recycle Jordan’s remix of Midnight to Monaco’s One Way Ticket, Funeral Advantage’s C.E.O.T.7.K., Zoology’s Negai, Flagship’s Mexican Jackpot, Chase McBride’s On the Other Side, The Dig’s Jet Black Hair and Utah’s SFSG. I also stumbled on Spotify’s Lush Vibes playlist and fell in love — it’s brimming with lush, hazy, chill, instrumental hip hop that allows to transport yourself to a tropical island (at least musically) this January!

FOOD BLOGGERS OF CANADA FEATURED MEMBER

Happy Friday, everyone! You’ll find me celebrating with a glass of sparkling rosé in hand tonight — because I’m the Food Bloggers of Canada Featured Member this week! I’ve been a member of The Food Bloggers of Canada since the summer of 2015 and they’ve been instrumental in JustineCelina‘s development, growth and success over the past year and a half. I’ve mentioned FBC many times here on the blog and I’ve also introduced you to a handful of fellow FBC members who I’ve formed some incredible friendships with along the way. If you’re a food blogger (or a lifestyle blogger who blogs about food!) I encourage you to check The Food Bloggers of Canada out — this community is absolutely invaluable to me.

Whether you’re new to JustineCelina or a long time reader, you’ll probably learn something new about me in this feature! I answer questions about why I started blogging, my professional background, some of my favourite bloggers and recipes, where I draw inspiration and what’s next. A big thank you to The Food Bloggers of Canada for the feature and also to FBC’s extremely hard working founders, Melissa Hartfiel and Ethan Adeland for their continuous guidance, support, kindness and generosity! Cheers, everyone — I hope you enjoy the interview (and a great glass of rosé!).

WINTER 2017 SHOE GUIDE | BASICS

With 2 months of winter left (I’m not counting down the days, or anything!), it seemed like the perfect time to create a series of SHOE GUIDES to help you transition from winter to spring in style! Today’s post is the first in a 2 part Winter Shoe Guide mini series here at JustineCelina where I’m chatting about my winter shoe basics — my cold weather footwear staples.

For the last couple of years I didn’t really find any winter shoes and boots that I loved. In my quest for more balance in all areas of my life this year, I’m making it a priority to purchase fewer, better quality things and reinstate my wardrobe with solid basics. So, I decided to essentially start from scratch this year, rebuilding my cold weather shoe wardrobe from the ground up (ha!). If you’re looking to upgrade your winter shoe game and add some versatile, practical, stylish basics to your closet, this post is for you! Today I’m sharing my 5 most worn pairs of shoes this winter — those comfortable, go anywhere, go-with-almost-everything-in-your-closet shoes that won’t go out of style anytime soon (and won’t break the bank — most of these styles are currently 50% off!).

AN ECLECTIC GLOBALLY INSPIRED ARRANGEMENT

While I’m all for embracing the crisp, snowy aesthetic of our Canadian winters, towards the end of January I find myself craving some serious colour! One of my favourite things about fresh flowers is their ability to infuse any space with their radiant energy and a cheerful pops of colour — so I thought it was the perfect time to share the inspiration behind this Eclectic Globally Inspired Arrangement Rebecca created for our Cozy Girls Night In (it’s awesome to have a friend that’s also a brilliant flower designer!).

This eclectic arrangement is a true melting pot of colour, texture and origin — showcasing blooms and greenery from Australia, South Africa, South America and Madagascar united with seasonal Snowberries foraged near Fernie, British Columbia for a unique, global flair! If you’d like to dip your toes into flower arranging, are interested in care tips or flower identification, Rebecca Dawn Design and I have you covered this weekend. You know the drill — pour yourself a glass of wine, turn on the fireplace and get ready to learn more about some unconventional, international blooms and flower arranging cornerstones in the January installment of our FLOWER ARRANGING series!

NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS: CULTIVATING A BALANCED 2017

So we’re half way into the first month of a fresh new year — how’s everyone doing? Did you set new goals, intentions and resolutions for 2017, or are you not really into that whole thing? Each year, I take the beginning of January as an opportunity to reflect on the year prior and evaluate how I can continue to grow and better myself in the upcoming year (if you’ve been with me since last year, you may remember my New Year, New Goals: Planning for a Successful 2016 post). I truly embrace the inherent fresh start that a new year provides and while I make it a priority to check in with myself often, a major overhaul was needed this year! I think the start of a new year is just as good a time as any to reflect, evaluate and set fresh intentions.

Today I’m sharing 5 goals and plans I’ve created for myself with then intention of cultivating more balance in my life in 2017 (and beyond!), plus what I’ve already done to work towards them. I’m also sharing some of my favourite planning, scheduling and creative tools to help me maximize my time, get organized, grow creatively and stay inspired! If you’re still in 2017 planning mode or want to learn more about my goals and plans for 2017 (and there are some big ones!), pour yourself a cup of coffee and get comfy — let’s get ready to make 2017 our best year yet! UPDATE: Check in on my progress 7 months later!
