PRINT OBSESSION | FLORAL FRENZY

If you’re following me on Instagram, you probably had an idea that this was coming. Ever since visiting the beautiful, blossoming Pacific Northwest in March, I’ve been obsessed with flowers and floral print (honestly, I’ve been buying tulips on almost every grocery run)! So I thought it would be fun to start an OBSESSION series here on JustineCelina; highlighting a print, colour or texture of the moment, and showing you how to work it into your personal style — whether it be in the form of fashion, beauty, or in the home.

I know what you’re thinking; florals for spring — groundbreaking, right?! I feel like floral prints are so huge this spring because they come in all shapes and sizes; bright, traditional, graphic, understated, tonal, etc. I’ve also been noticing a lot of flower motifs in interior design, and in spring beauty launches. So, I’ve selected some of my favourites for the flower obsessed!

1. Dalia Flower Crown

Oh, how I love a good flower crown! Although I would really like to walk around with flowers in my hair on the daily, I don’t think they’re appropriate for everyday wear — but they’re great special occasion pieces. If you need an excuse to wear one; festivals, picnics, outdoor parties or any other feminine / outdoorsy occasion are a perfect time. Are you attending a wedding or baby shower? Flower crowns make nice wearable gifts for moms / brides-to-be on their special days! This one is so pretty, well constructed, and I love the contrast of the peach flowers against brunette hair.

2. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

This is such a pretty, feminine and sexy scent — it’s one of my favourites for spring. Flowebomb has a cult following and it’s easy to see why, I always receive so many compliments when I wear it! It has a bit of a bohemian vibe to it, which makes sense since it has a patchouli base without being too earthy. If you’re looking to try a fresh new scent for spring, Flowerbomb is my pick! And, remember you can always try a rollerball size if you’re looking to test-drive a scent without a major commitment.

3. Stila Field of Florals Convertible Colour Palette

Want to add a fresh pop of colour to your spring beauty routine? This is a totally innovative concept from Stila — a palette that contains 12 springy shades for lips and cheeks, all inspired by and named after different flowers! How cool is that?! These are all cream products that add a soft wash of colour to lips and cheeks, and the best part is that you can mix the colours together to create your perfect spring shade. To use them on the lips; simply apply with your finger or a lip brush. To use them on the cheeks I’d recommend using a small duo fibre brush (like this one) and tapping the brush into the product to coat the brush slightly, then apply in swirling motion. I think this palette offers incredible value, would be perfect for travel, and I love the creativity!

(P.S. – The Sephora Spring Beauty Insider Event is on right now — qualifying members receive 10-15% off until April 20th/21st — you would have been emailed deets corresponding to your membership level. Don’t forget!)

4. Garden Floral Pillow

One of my favourite ways to change up decor is to switch out accent pieces like pillows, throws and rugs seasonally. I’m totally in love with these bright floral pillows from Chapters! Chapters has an amazing home decor section — if you’ve never checked it out, next time you’re in the area definitely grab a latte and browse. These pillows are floral and fresh, and I love that they incorporate yellow into the print — another big spring trend. I think floral print can work as a neutral, and these definitely fall into that category — I can see these working well with a variety of schemes / spaces. These pillows would be a nice cheery addition to the bedroom if they’re too feminine for your main living area.

5. FELICITY & COCO Floral Print Fit & Flare Dress

I’m crushing hard on this beautiful watercolour floral dress from Nordstorm! Think of all the places you could wear this… dress it up with statement jewelery and killer heels for a spring wedding, or down with a blazer and flats for the office. You can wear this dress just about anywhere! The exposed zipper and racer back give the dress a bit of a sporty vibe, and the high neckline keeps things modest while allowing you to show a little more leg. The classic fit and flare silhouette of this dress will be flattering on every body type since it highlights the smallest part of your waist, and it’s made of cotton which will keep you cool in the warmer spring and summer months. And, this dress comes in regular and petite sizes.

6. Ali Gulec Floral Skull Art Print

I’m currently redecorating my office, and I think I’ve just found a perfect piece of art! I’m a sucker for Day of the Dead themed anything, and I really love the details of this poster. Since it’s so colourful it would work well pretty much anywhere, and would suit a variety of framing options, or look great simply tacked to the wall. The flowers, butterflies, and foliage are really beautiful, and I love the juxtaposition of them with skull motif. Posters are a great inexpensive way to decorate your space and support artists — keep your eyes peeled at stores like Micheals, which frequently have BOGO or 40% off deals on frames.

7. Electric Orchid Print Swing Tunic

Here’s a tunic for those who prefer to air on the dark side of spring florals. I think the sharp lines and vibrant palette of this floral print against the black is so striking. I can think of a million ways to style this piece — after dark, throw on a black wide-brimmed hat, liquid leggings and black strappy sandals, pair with white denim and a bright lip for a lighter vibe, or use it as a beach cover-up into the summer. This would also be a great transitional piece from spring to fall — try pairing it with a maxi skirt and fringe accents for an end-of-summer / beginning-of-fall outfit.

8. Falling Fleur You Yellow Floral Print Clutch

If you want to incorporate some floral pieces into your wardrobe but aren’t sure where to start, try adding floral accessories like this super cute clutch. It will add a fresh pop of colour to neutral outfits, and pair well with just about anything. This little clutch is perfect for wine dates, ladies nights, spring parties or weddings. Sometimes I like to match my lip colour to an accessory I’m wearing, and the warm color palette of this print would pair really well with my favourite spring shades (spoiler alert: a 6 Fresh Spring Lip Colours post will be coming ‘atcha on Wednesday)!

9. GUESS Floral Print Heel

When I heard that DSW was opening in Canada I freaked out and immediately started stalking these shoes online! I finally made my way into their Sunridge location earlier this week to pick these shoes up, and I’ve already worn them twice this week. The sales associate asked me what I was going to wear them with, and I said “Everything!”. Here’s another example of how floral print can work as a neutral — since this print has so many different colours going on, you can pull any of them out to coordinate your outfit (ie: your shirt could be any of the colours in the print), or could compliment any of the colours in the print. One day I wore them with a teal tunic, pastel peach jacket, coral lip and white denim for an afternoon of meetings, and another day I wore them with a black-and-white stripped dress, chambray shirt, nude lip and black hat for a dinner date. I love to mix prints, combining more graphic prints like stripes with floral prints. If you’re thinking of picking these up, beware that they run a bit small — I usually wear a 6-7, and purchased these in a 7.5. They also run a bit wide, but I can still make them work. They’re actually really comfortable!

Pattern Obsession | Milani Rose Powder Blush // JustineCelina.com
10. Milani Rose Powder Blush

Okay… how adorable is this blush? I’ve been hearing about these blushes for a while, and they’ve finally trickled into Canada because I stumbled on them this week at Superstore. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw it, it’s that adorable! Milani makes my favourite blushes at the drugstore (I’m particularly a fan of their baked blushes), and I love this Rose Powder Blush in Coral Cove (left) and Tea Rose (right). Warm pinks are such a flattening shade on a variety of skintones from the very fair all the way to deep — they add a nice flushed, heathy look to the skin. The rose print in this blush is very embossed so you’ll be able to use it for a long time before the design starts to fade. If you’re in the market for a new inexpensive blush, check these out! You can find them at select Superstores, Walmarts, or online (products are always linked in the titles for you!).

What are your favourite ways to incorporate a trend into your personal style? Leave me your suggestions in the comments! And if you end up trying any of my picks out, let me know how you like them, I’d love to hear from you!
