SPRINGING FORWARD + SEASONAL WARDROBE STAPLES

I’m back today with the first of many Spring 2017 FASHION posts coming to JustineCelina — and it feels fantastic! Originally, this look was scheduled for last month, but shooting style content with a fully dressed finger was decidedly… less than glamorous. Now that I’ve healed up a bit I couldn’t wait to jump back in front of the camera (please excuse the Band-Aid!) and chat about some of my Seasonal Wardrobe Staples. It’s been a long winter on the Alberta prairies, but I think it’s safe to say spring has finally arrived!

If you’re looking to refresh your spring style with a few key pieces this season, I’ve totally got you covered today as we spring forward. Although this outfit definitely incorporates a few trends (keep your eyes peeled for several upcoming Spring 2017 TREND GUIDES!) it’s also comprised of spring wardrobe building blocks and updated basics. You may remember me mentioning I wanted to rebuild my wardrobe with quality pieces this year — and I’m excited to share some of those foundational staples with you! Today we’re chatting about the Spring 2017 Pantone Fashion Color Report and simple ways to translate seasonal colour trends into your personal style, Mom jeans (sorry… they’re not going anywhere), step hem denim, blush and pastel hues, basic tees, mini bags, a quintessential spring shoe, oversized shades (obviously!) and a beautiful, everyday lip!

Soft Pink Maxi Blazer with Sleeves | Sleeveless V-Neck Bodysuit | Trashed Mom Jeans (similar) | Nude Pointed Toe Pumps (similar, similar, similar, similar) | Grey Faux Leather Satchel | Round Cutout Sunglasses | Layered Circle Pendant Necklace, Layered Geo Necklace | Rose Gold Skinny Bracelet Watch | NARS Audacious Lipstick in Brigitte

APRIL 2017 SOUNDTRACK

My April 2017 Soundtrack is one of my favourite Monthly Soundtracks I’ve shared in quite awhile. I’m not sure what it was (being laid up at home for 10 days while my finger recovered probably had something to do with it!) but I was in such a musical mood this month and discovered so many incredible, inspiring artists along with way.

April’s Soundtrack is chill, happy and upbeat with lots of alternative, indie and electronic vibes — plus a healthy dose of folk and hip hop thrown in for good measure. There have been so many standout tracks on rotation this month, but Donovan Woods It’ll Work Itself Out, a really cool, stripped down remix of Don’t Dream It’s Over, Louis the Child and Elohim’s Love is Alive, Mating Ritual’s Cold, Chet Porter Chelsea Culter’s Stay, One Man Dancing’s Blank Page, Hollow Cove’s Coastline, RAC and Roastam’s This Song, Jessie Early’s Body Can’t Hold, Louis the Child and Ashe’s World on Fire, Utah’s No Coast, CLAVVS Silver Tongue, Paperwhite’s Human Nature, Fallen Roses and B dom’s Yours and Nobody Else’s, The Chainsmoker’s The One, Skrux’s Our Fragment, Goldroom’s Till Sunrise, Emmit Fenn’s Blinded, The 1975’s A Change of Heart, Rachel K Collier’s Paper Tiger, No Suits and Abhi The Nomad’s I’m Good and Stonefox’s Dreamstate sounded particularly good to my ears (I’m only about halfway through the playlist but I’ll park it there!). I can’t wait for you to hear them in this 5 hour, 82 song playlist!

ROASTED PURPLE CAULIFLOWER WITH RED PEPPER ROMESCO (WILD ROSE D-TOX FRIENDLY!)

I’ve been testing this recipe since December — and it feels so good to finally publish it! Typically I go through 3 – 5 rounds of recipe testing and for my Roasted Purple Cauliflower with Red Pepper Romesco, the fourth time was the charm. If you’ve been following along on my socials, you may know that I had an unfortunate accident with a new kitchen knife on Easter Monday, sliced my index finger and wound up in the ER. Ironically, I was recipe testing. I’ll save you all the gory details because this is a food post after all, but long story short — I ended up with 5 stitches, one very sore finger, minimal nerve damage and a mild reaction to a Tetanus shot that left me with a rash all over my upper body (it’s been a rough couple of weeks!). So if it’s seemed a bit quiet around here, that’s why. It was such a struggle to do pretty much everything during the first week while I was healing up, but my stitches came out Thursday and I’m on the mend. The whole thing was pretty scary and I’m just incredibly grateful it wasn’t any worse! Thank you for all your well wishes and your patience as I attempted to navigate through life at a slower pace these past couple of weeks.

Now, onward and upward! After a week of being terrified to use my kitchen knife and not being able to actually wield it to chop anything, we decided to start the Wild Rose D-Tox on Monday. This is my 6th time doing it over the years and it’s not that much different than my regular, plant based diet — minus anything fermented (yes, that includes alcohol!), tropical fruit and the occasional indulgence. I like to think of it as spring cleaning for my system — and one that was definitely needed after feeling so out of whack last week with my Tetanus shot, taking painkillers (I prefer not to take medication unless absolutely necessary — we didn’t even have any Ibuprofen in the house!) and having to resort to a lot of frozen leftovers (thankfully, my recipe testing process affords a well stocked freezer!). Fast forward to late this week and I finally got my groove back — I was happy to be the kitchen again and feeling inspired! I used this past week as an opportunity to slow down and really focus on what I’m putting in my body to help it heal. I perfected my Roasted Purple Cauliflower with Red Pepper Romesco yesterday and I’m happy to report that it’s completely Wild Rose D-Tox friendly — I can’t wait to share it with you!

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY LE MARC LIQUID LIP CRÉME REVIEW & SWATCHES

It’s rare that I publish dedicated review posts, but every once in awhile I fall so hard for a product that I know I just have to share it with all of you! Such is the case with the Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crèmes — a newer range of comfortable (yes, really), lightweight, ultra pigmented, extremely luxurious liquid lipsticks. Sound too good to be true? I promise you, it isn’t. You may remember me introducing them to you initially in my Spring 2017 Beauty Trend Guide — and since then, I’ve become completely smitten!

This weekend I’ve partnered with Sephora Canada to bring you a comprehensive review of the entire Le Marc Liquid Lip Crème range. If we’ve hung out in person over the past couple of months and you’ve asked me about my lipstick, chances are I’ve been wearing one of these (I’ve been purposely keeping them out of my Monthly Beauty Favourites posts so that I could share them all with you in this dedicated review!). Each shade from the range is absolutely stunning, consistently formulated and just easy to wear. We all know how obsessed I am with blush, peach and neutral tones this spring and these liquid lips are a neutral lovers dream! Each of these 6 shades are perfectly on trend for the season, yet wearable year round. If you’ve always wanted to try a liquid lipstick but thought they’d be too drying or simply not for you, I might just change your mind with these innovative lip crèmes from Marc Jacobs Beauty. They’re my top recommendation for anyone looking to invest in a luxury liquid lipstick this season!

A BLUSHING SPRING ARRANGEMENT

Flower children, welcome back for another installment in our FLOWER EDUCATION series! Today Rebecca Dawn Design and I couldn’t be more excited to share this Blushing Spring Arrangement with you — it’s sweet, fragrant and right on trend Spring (nope, I’m not even close to being done with the Spring Pantone Fashion Color Report!). Although I love each of the arrangements and bouquets Rebecca and I create, I have to say — this one is my all time favourite!

Blush tones are a huge trend this spring and its been so much fun translating seasonal colour inspiration across categories. This season, blush, peach and neutral tones have been present in my BEAUTY content and I can’t stop wearing blush inspired neutrals at the moment (they’ll be popping up in my next FASHION post!). Not only are blush and neutral toned blooms perfectly on trend, but the exquisite variety of shades that mother natures provides for us each spring is truly nothing short of amazing. Embrace the season with us today as we chat about our favourite spring blooms and flowering branches in this Blushing Spring Arrangement — including dreamy, oversized Japanese Ranunculus, standard Ranunculus, Quicksand Roses, Lisianthus, Hyacinths and fragrant Magnolia branches hailing from Canada’s west coast! Rebecca also shares her expert flowering branch foraging and care tips to inspire you to enjoy the beauty of the season in your home this spring.

MARCH 2017 BEAUTY FAVOURITES + BLOG HOUSEKEEPING

Hey guys — welcome back for another Monthly Beauty Favourites post! As you may have gathered, the last couple of months have been intense BEAUTY wise here at JustineCelina — I’m elated to continue my partnership with Sephora Canada into 2017 and have been testing products like crazy. I’ve also been testing new drugstore products as well (if you joined me over on Insta Stories one random Friday afternoon last month where I unboxed and gave my first impressions on a ton of new goodies I picked up from Wet n Wild, you know what I’m talking about!). My March 2017 Beauty Favourites are a mixture of new high end obsessions and new drugstore obsessionsthere’s something for everyone!

And now, for some blog housekeeping. Back in my New Year, New Goals: Cultivating a Balanced 2017 post, I mentioned a number of things I was investigating to aid me in working smarter this year. I’ve been experimenting with new structures, programs, workflows and tools behind the scenes here at JustineCelina this year — and you’ll see the first of the changes roll out in today’s post (I’m excited to share them with you — but I’m still learning, so it’s a work in progress!). If you’re in the mood to learn more about March’s standout beauty products with a side of blog housekeeping, pour yourself fresh cup of coffee and settle in for a lengthy read!
