Whether you’re exploring the great outdoors or enjoying a bit of a staycation, my August 2019 Soundtrack has arrived for your listening pleasure! This nearly 3 hour playlist features everything I’ve been listening to over the past month — and as usual, it’s an eclectic melange of genres, artists and release dates. LATE SUMMER 2019 LOOKBOOK

With 3 weeks of summer still to savour, I’m back today with my Late Summer 2019 Lookbook! We started shooting this mammoth project mid-June — and although it’s taken quite some time to process the 2700+ images we took (these LOOKBOOK are definitely labours of love!), I’m absolutely elated to share this 12 outfit, late summer style guide with you today! As usual, it features everything I’ve been wearing and loving in both personal and professional settings over the last couple of months — plus innovative styling tips to help you extend the life of your summer wardrobe as we transition into autumn! My Late Summer 2019 Lookbook is complete with a healthy dose of seasonal trends, plus practical tips on how to wear them into fall, mixed with transitional wardrobe staples and shoppable links at every pricepoint (plus, insider tips about where to score the best end-of-season sales!).

Since I live in a climate where there’s snow covering the ground for 7+ months of the year, I love to make the most of my summer wardrobe (and put as many miles on my open-toed shoes as possible!) while the weather cooperates! Once of my favourite ways to blend summer and autumn is with colour — recently I’ve been really inspired by the Pantone Autumn/Winter 2019/2020 Fashion Colour Trend Report and am taking cues for my transitional style. As always, you can expect a mash-up of high, low, old, new and vintage in my Late Summer 2019 Lookbook — with the beautiful Alberta prairies and badlands as our backdrop! If you’re getting ready to transition your wardrobe into a new season but still hanging onto summer you’re in the right place — I’m dishing on how to blend the best of both seasons in this practical, FASHION-forward guide for style savvy.

MIDSUMMER SPACE REFRESH UPDATE

Interior design loving friends, welcome back for a long overdue SPACE REFRESH update! If you read my 2018 Review + 2019 Goals post, you’ll know that I had planned to have the next rooms in the series completed by now — but due to some unforeseen delays and unexpected (but necessary!) repairs, things have been pushed back. I realized last week that I’ve been pretty good about updating you about what’s going on on my socials, but the majority of you don’t follow me there, so I wanted to publish an all-encompassing Midsummer Space Refresh Update here at JustineCelina to bring you up to speed!

Overall, even though the next rooms in our  have taken longer than expected due to some furniture delays, I’m very happy with the way things are coming together. Originally I was planning to have both the Entrance Way and Main Bathroom complete by the end of Q2, but due to a couple of furniture items being back ordered until the end of September, I’m now planning to have both of those spaces finished this fall. Instead, I’ve used the extra time to source finishing details to really elevate both rooms and make them super functional! It’s actually been a welcome change of pace to take things a bit slower around here, enjoy the summer, and not be working on the apartment every single weekend. If you’re interested in what’s coming next, updates and repairs we’ve made to the other rooms and plans for the rest of the year, fix yourself a cocktail and come join me in my Living Room for a transparent read!

ANOTHER TRIP AROUND THE SUN

It’s Leo season and the canola is in full bloom here on the Alberta prairies as I celebrate Another Trip Around The Sun. I’ve always associated these free-spirited country flowers with my birthday — so when we stumbled on this gorgeous crop outside Okotoks after wrapping up shoots for my upcoming Late Summer 2019 Lookbook, we pulled over to capture these images as the sun set. It had been a long, hot day and I was a bit sweaty and disheveled, but we had about 15 minutes to make it happen and decided to go for it! To maximize the beautiful golden light, we ended up shooting into the sun (rather than the pretty backlit effect I typically prefer) and I was stunned at how beautifully these images came out — in fact, I think they’re my favourite of all the canola photos we’ve taken over the years. So, I thought it was fitting to share them with you to celebrate my birthday!

I actually wasn’t planning to write a post for my birthday this year — this post, like these photos, were completely spontaneous. This summer I’ve been trying to live in the moment, make the most of my opportunities and take life as it comes — and I feel that this set of images represent me and the direction I’m heading with JustineCelina perfectly right now! I’m happy, healthy and excited about what’s on the horizon — I feel very much in alignment with who I am and ready to for wherever my next trip around the sun takes me. If you’re in the mood for a reflective and uplifting read I’d love for you to pour yourself a glass of wine and spend part of your evening with me!

JULY 2019 SOUNDTRACK

Happy Friday, friends! This girl is so ready for a glass of wine and for the long weekend. If you’re in need of some fresh tunes to decorate your long weekend adventures, my July 2019 Soundtrack is ready for streaming! This hour and a half long playlist features a really eclectic mixture of tracks spanning genres from instrumental to rap, with an emphasis on hip-hop (there are so many new artists I’ve been enjoying this summer!). No matter what you’re up to this long weekend, this easy-listening playlist is full of summer anthems you’ll enjoy during August long weekend and beyond!

There are so many standout artists and tracks I discovered in July — including Lil’ Skies Name in the Sand, bülow’s Do You Mean and You and Jennifer (who we saw live at The Calgary Stampede), Dazy Park’s Heartbeat City, Kabo and ford’s Places We Don’t Know, Maree Docia’s At Last, Sunrise, Tennyson’s Wintersleep, Medasin and Kathleen’s Always Afternoon, Mood’s Bucket List, Machine Gun Kelly’s El Diablo and Candy (but I had the whole album on heavy rotation this month!), Hope Tala’s Lovestained, Amorphous and Amindi’s Alright, Jacques Green and Cadence Weapon’s Night Service and San Holo’s Lead Me Back. Happy listening and enjoy this beautiful long weekend!

GLUTEN FREE SASKATOON CITRUS BANANA BREAD

Saskatoon berry season is just around the corner — and I’m back today with a new, citrus infused banana bread recipe to celebrate! If you’ve been with me since last summer, you’ll know I absolutely adore saskatoons and look forward to picking buckets full each summer. So, it will come as no surprise that I’ve actually been testing this recipe since late winter with our stash of frozen saskatoons. My Gluten Free Saskatoon Citrus Banana Bread recipe is the result of cleaning out our freezer and fruit bowls one snowy, frigid winter day and incorporating whatever ingredients we had on hand — which always seems to yield the most delicious RECIPES in the JustineCelina kitchen!

My Gluten Free Saskatoon Citrus Banana Bread is free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar and full of healthier, natural substitutions — perfect for those of us with food allergies, intolerances or sensitivities. An inspired melange of bananas, saskatoons and fresh orange and lemon juices combine with plant-based baking staples of coconut, maple and just a splash of bourbon (it’s my newest baking secret ingredient!) to create a bright, nourishing banana bread combining the best of summer and winter with a cheerful, citrusy twist! It makes for a fantastic breakfast, snack or clean dessert anytime you’re craving a berry-forward banana bread, year round. If you have an abundance of seasonal berries and a freezer full of bananas on hands, it’s time get them defrosting, pour yourself a cup of coffee, haul out your mixing bowls and throw on your apron — this recipe is for you! I’ve also included baking instructions for a muffin variation, if you prefer.
