FLOWERCHILD

The canola is in full bloom here on the Alberta prairies where I’ve spent the better part of the past week on a bit of a ‘workcation’ — and I couldn’t resist slipping out to capture another set of golden hour images! As a blogger and content creator, I review my photo archives often, and the images we captured during last year’s completely impromptu (and a little tipsy!) canola shoot were some of my favourite of the entire year. So last night we decided to resurrect those happy, sunshiny memories! I put on a different dress and we headed up the gravel road to a different field with different camera a different lens — almost exactly 1 year later.

I’m wearing a few of my favourite things in this post — a flowy, white cotton dress, a turban style headband, an Amuse Bouche lipstick, oversized, round sunnies and some vintage jewellery. I’m also sharing some thoughts on creativity, inspiration, balance and the grind of modern day life in this introspective post. I invite you to hit pause for a little while, bathe in this beautiful golden light and breathe in the warm, canola scented air with me on this peaceful summer evening in the prairies!

WILD SASKATOON BERRY CRUMBLE

Happy Monday, everyone! How was your weekend? If you’ve been following along with my Insta Stories lately you likely caught a glimpse of what my weekend looked like, including my very first saskatoon picking adventure! An old friend of mine invited us to forage their family farm near Carseland, Alberta where the saskatoons are flourishing — it’s the best crop they’ve ever had. I spent Saturday evening strolling through saskatoon tree lined paths with my Mom and little sister — bucket in one berry stained hand and camera in the other (now that’s my kind of girls night!). It was a gorgeous evening and we came away with overflowing buckets, happy hearts and about 8 pounds of berries!

Enjoy the bounty of our beautiful Canadian prairies with my Wild Saskatoon Berry Crumble — a simple, 9 ingredient recipe with a wholesome, plant based spin. It’s free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar — and bursting with decadent berry flavour! Freshly picked saskatoons are bathed in bright lemon juice then naturally sweetened with rich, caramel laden coconut sugar and sprinkled with a hearty topping including quick oats, homemade oat flour, more coconut sugar, Himalayan pink salt, cinnamon, chopped almonds and coconut oil. This vibrant, crowd pleasing dessert that accommodates food allergies and sensitivities without compromising those classic crumble characteristics we all know and love (I promise, no one will know it’s a ‘free from’ dessert!). It’s a no fuss summer dessert that’s ideal for entertaining and can be on your table in 45 minutes!

I think it’s fair to say I’m a shoe girl! I love publishing shoe related content because it’s so inclusive — everyone looks and feels great in a fantastic pair of shoes. Shoes are my favourite accessory; the right pair totally completes an outfit and gives me an extra spring in my step! And not to worry — there are lots of flat, comfortable styles included as well. As I mentioned back in January, I’ve been on a mission to rebuild my wardrobe with quality basics this year, and I definitely identified a hole in my shoe wardrobe in the flat department. It just so happens that flats are on trend this year!

Take a peek inside my summer shoe closet today as I break down seasonal trends with a selection of 30 of my favourite shoes! Today I’m chatting mules, espadrilles, embellishment, embroidered, tassels, fringe, sneakers, slides, flats, block heel, minimalist, wedges, pointed toe, flatforms, cork, pompoms (because… obviously!) and seasonal colour trends of yellow, orange, red and pink in this shoe packed mega guide. PROTEIN PACKED CHERRY ALMOND GRANOLA

I decided, spur-of-the-moment, to clean out the pantry one Saturday morning earlier this month… which usually leads to an impromptu cooking session! The product of my weekend cleaning spree was this completely unplanned granola recipe — and of course it was delicious, because I didn’t write anything down (#foodbloggerfail). As things go around here, almost every time I bake or cook without an agenda, it ends up being a recipe that I deem to be blogworthy (and thankfully, granola ingredients are pretty easy to dissect!). At the request of my Insta Story friends who got a sneak peek at the initial batch of this recipe, I threw it into testing so I could share it here with you!

As you might guess, my Protein Packed Cherry Almond Granola is made with… well, pantry staples! In fact, I bet you have most of these ingredients kicking around your kitchen right now. A nutritious, antioxidant rich blend of oats, almonds, pepitas, shredded coconut, cocoa nibs, dried cherries and a plant based vanilla protein powder (it may seem crazy, but it adds tons of extra protein and natural sweetness to this granola!) combine with coconut oil, organic Canadian maple syrup (eh?!) a kiss of cinnamon and a dash of salt to create a versatile granola that can be enjoyed in your breakfast bowls, smoothie bowls, parfaits and alone as a snack all summer long. As I sit here editing this post, I’m noshing on a bowl with fresh BC cherries, nut milk and one of those frothy lattes! Oh, and did I mention it comes together in 20 minutes?

SPRING 2017 TREND GUIDE | GINGHAM STYLE + MOTHER’S DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

Welcome back for the first of many Spring / Summer 2017 TREND GUIDES coming to JustineCelina this season! Today we’re kicking things off with a bang — my Spring 2017 Trend Guide | Gingham Style was shot at 2900 feet atop Sulphur Mountain in the Canadian Rockies! Knowing my Mom was the woman behind the lens of my style content, my friends at Brewster Travel Canada reached out earlier this month, offering to treat us to a chocolate tasting and wine pairing at the Sky Bistro for Mother’s Day (how incredibly thoughtful is that?)! I’d been trying to mastermind a way to get my Mom to the mountains for Mother’s Day for quite some time, so when the opportunity to spend a day learning about chocolate from master chocolatier Bernard Callebaut presented itself, she simply couldn’t pass it up. We had the best time — I know many of you enjoyed coming along in my Insta Stories last weekend!

Today I’ll be sharing a few highlights from our day along with key seasonal trends — we’re talking yellow, red (and that Spring 2017 Pantone Fashion Color Report!), gingham, embroidery, flats, novelty denim and more. This post is part Spring 2017 Trend Guide | Gingham Style and part Mother’s Day in the Mountains! I’ve condensed our Mother’s Day experience to the first part of the post, so if you’re just here for the FASHION, you can find that towards the middle. I hope you enjoy the change of scenery, the style and a few snippets of our mountain getaway!
