OCTOBER 2017 SOUNDTRACK

Happy Halloween, everyone! I know I say this every time I publish a monthly soundtrack but I seriously can’t believe another month has flown by. October was a very full month for me in terms of content creation for JustineCelina, client work and a couple of larger projects I’ve been working on behind the scenes (that I hope to show you very soon!). I also cut a fringe and have been focusing on welcoming new experiences, projects and ideas into my life lately — hence our impromptu trip to the Alberta Badlands, where this shot was taken along side the Red Deer River near the Star Mine Suspension Bridge (isn’t the landscape absolutely stunning?)! My October 2017 Soundtrack was blasting the whole time — a chill, easy listening, 2.5 hour playlist full of good vibes to inspire your next adventure, work or anything else you need some great background music for. As per usual it’s a mash up of everything that sounded good to my ears this past month as I puttered away on various creative projects (and roadtripped all over Alberta and British Columbia!).

October’s standout tracks include Rostam’s Bike Dream, Broken Social Scene’s Protest Song, Matt DiMona’s Old School Turn Tables, Louis The Child and Ashe’s Right To It, Krrum’s Get The Girl, Wild Front’s Southside, Aisha Badru’s Mind on Fire, Sylvan Esso’s Rhye remixed Die Young, the Marian Hill Remix of Electric with Khalid and Alina Baraz, Kygo and Jason Walker’s Sunrise, Netherfriends Ride or Vibe, ICELANDIA’s Magic, Koresma’s The Overlook, Airia’s Without You Here and Utah’s People of the Future. Happy listening!

HOW TO STYLE | KIMONOS FOR AUTUMN

Friends, I’ve never been more excited to share a FASHION post here at JustineCelina as I am today! If you follow along via my socials, you’ll know that we took a trip to the Alberta Badlands on an unseasonably warm (and windy!) day last week to shoot some new autumn style content. This look is the first of 3 captured against this stunning landscape that will be rolling out over the next month or so — and they’re some of my favourite images we’ve ever created, fashion wise! Today’s post also marks the revival of my HOW TO STYLE series — where I take specific on-trend item that you might not think you can pull off, may be intimidated by, or may not think is wearable for a certain season. If you frequent my style archives, you’ll know just how much I love kimonos — but did you know they’re actually one of my favourite pieces to wear year round? Today I’m sharing my best tips and tricks for styling kimonos for autumn, as well as a handful of my favourite casual fall wardrobe staples!

I mentioned earlier in October that since cutting my fringe I feel completely reinspired fashion wise. I’d always wanted take a trip to the Badlands to capture style content and I figured an 18°C day in October was as good a time as any! Typically, we photograph style content as I’m actually wearing things (it’s more authentic to me that way), but I was itching to try something new. So, I packed up the car with outfits and gear — and we headed an hour northwest of my childhood home in rural Alberta to the Drumheller area for a change of scenery. As we journeyed into the desert and beautiful backdrops unfolded around every turn I marveled at how traveling just a couple of hours can really inspire the content and it’s something I want to do a lot more of in the future! Come along with me on a virtual adventure to the Badlands as I break down this free spirited autumn look — complete with tons of shoppable links at every price point, plus tips on how to distress your own denim (I DIY’ed this pair myself)!

RADIANT RED JUICE

Can you believe it’s been almost a year since I published a fresh juice recipe?! I tend to go through phases with food and 2017 has definitely been full of more smoothie bowls than it has fresh juices. But today I’ve dusted off our juicer to bring you my Radiant Red Juice — a beautiful, summer-meets-fall elixir celebrating the best produce our bountiful Canadian landscape has to offer during this transitional time of year. Like last autumn’s fresh juice, this recipe is also inspired by colour — but this time, it’s a nod to Autumn 2017’s hottest hue (here I go with that PANTONE Fall 2017 Fashion Color Report again)… red!

I came up with this recipe on a Thursday after a huge farmer’s market run the weekend prior — it was fruit overload in the best way possible. My boyfriend had also just returned from a business trip with tons of Okanagan peaches — plus some gorgeous apples, blackberries and plums straight from a colleague’s mini orchard! We were headed out of town the next day for a weekend wedding, I was researching A/W17 trends and kept seeing red popping up everywhere (hint: there’s going to be a bit of a theme here at JustineCelina next month!) — and before I knew it I was in the kitchen combining all the red (or close to red!) produce we had available for a juice so it wouldn’t spoil while we away. My Radiant Red Juice was the result — a comforting, vivacious juice comprised of heirloom apples, red plums, red pears, blackberries, carrots, ginger, lime and a kiss of cinnamon. This nutritional, crimson powerhouse is loaded with a mega dose of vitamins, antioxidants, phytonutrients and flavonoids to help to promote a healthy immune system and a radiant complexion. If you’re looking for some fresh juicing ideas as we head into autumn, you’ve come to the right place!
