AUTUMN / WINTER 2016 FRAGRANCE EDIT

My love of fragrance extends as far back as early childhood. I’m sure most of us remember watching our mothers perched at their vanities, applying perfume — the finishing touch that completed their transformation. I was always enthralled by that process, even as a young girl. Fragrance has always had a special allure for me and over the years I’ve collected quite a few favourites. In my eyes, there’s nothing more feminine or sophisticated than a captivating scent. Even on more natural days, I always apply a fragrance in the morning — it’s a luxurious part of my routine that helps set the tone for my day. The right fragrance always gives me a burst confidence and makes me feel empowered!

In my AUTUMN / WINTER 2016 FRAGRANCE EDIT, I’m sharing my all-time-favourite cool weather fragrances — you know, the ones that pair well with cozy sweaters, red wine and a toasty fireplace? Like fashion, beauty and food, I also transition my fragrance along with the seasons. During the summertime I tend to favour crisp, clean, fruity scents — but bring on the drama during the autumn and winter! My favourite cool weather fragrances are deep, comforting and warm. Many of my choices are unisex, so you can share them with your partner (what’s sexier than that?), or keep them all to yourself. Dive into my comprehensive guide to ten of-the-moment fragrances available at Sephora Canada from Elizabeth & James, Mason Margiela, ToykoMilk Dark and newcomer Derek Lam — including holiday gift ideas!

APPLE PIE STEEL CUT OATS WITH CANDIED MAPLE PECANS

I’m back with some beautiful, orchard-fresh Ambrosia apples, a new recipe and a grateful, renewed mindset! Happy belated Thanksgiving to my Canadian readers, I hope you all enjoyed a weekend full of family, friends, delicious food and a few good drinks. It’s been a week since my last post because I decided to take this weekend off from blogging. It was a combination of events that led me to decide another unplugged weekend was exactly what I needed (nothing serious, but I definitely needed the time away!). I’ll get more into that later in this post — but for now, let’s get to chatting about this recipe!

My Apple Pie Steel Cut Oats with Candied Maple Pecans is inspired by comfort food, holiday flavours and warming, autumnal spices. They’re a simple, delicious way to celebrate fall’s freshly harvested apples and they can be on your table in less than 45 minutes. Who says you can’t indulge an apple pie craving to start your day? This powerhouse breakfast bowl is free of dairy, gluten and refined sugar — and bursting with natural sweetness, spices and wholesome nutrition. And yes, it really does taste just like apple pie! Throw on your coziest sweater and let’s make an apple pie inspired dish that you can eat for breakfast — all week long!

SEPTEMBER BEAUTY FAVOURITES

My love for the season has definitely translated into my September Beauty Favourites! Last month my favourite products were rich and earthtoned across the board. I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t wait for fall to roll around so I can incorporate some deeper, richer hues into my beauty routine — give me all the autumnal reds, berries, browns and golds, please!

I discovered some luxurious, comfortable lipsticks in on-trend shades for fall 2016, a stunning duochrome eyeshadow that’s one of the most unique shades I’ve ever worn, used some of my favourite lip liners all over my lips as matte lipsticks, rekindled my love for Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfectors and totally used up my favourite Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. Stay tuned for some fantastic fall beauty recommendations and an introduction to the Fall 2016 Pantone Fashion Trend Report — you’re going to be hearing a lot about it over the next couple of months here at JustineCelina!

SEPTEMBER SOUNDTRACK

Who’s ready for a fresh new playlist to welcome autumn? My September Soundtrack has you covered with just under 4 hours of new tunes! September was a really busy month for me and I’m constantly listening to music while I’m working on various projects — this has been my background music all month long and it’s also the music that’s been playing in my Instagram Stories if you’ve been following along! It’s great music to work, think and create to. A few standout tracks this month include a really dreamy, stripped down cover of The Smashing Pumpkin’s 1979 (my name is the lyrics!), Kasbo’s remix of Mutemath’s Monument, MOOD ROBOT’s Ghost, Attom & Ciele’s Afterglow, Softer Still’s New Age, Bird Passenger’s Cabin Fever, Zammuto’s My Dog’s Eyes and Bon Iver’s new track 33 “GOD” (I could go on!). I’ve also included a few other tracks from MOOD ROBOT — I’m a huge fan of their sound and all of their albums! Come hang out for awhile and treat your ears to 58 fresh tracks this fall.

PRE FALL TRANSITIONAL STYLE

I, along with almost every other woman on the planet, will tell you that fall is my favourite time of year, especially for fashion. But September specifically is my favourite month — well, for almost everything (except Pumpkin Spice Lattes… I may be the only woman on the planet who’s not a fan of those!). It’s nice enough outside that we don’t have to be totally bundled up, but cooler temperatures call for more autumnal, layered style. It’s the perfect opportunity to maximize wear time on your favourite summer pieces, but also to begin playing with autumn fashion. So, today’s post a fall-inspired outfit with wear now appeal — a summer-meets-autumn mashup that we only get to wear for a brief window of time here in Calgary! I’m also chatting about some of fall 2016’s biggest trends and giving you tips to incorporate them into your personal style, right now.

HOW TO STYLE | JUMPSUITS

It’s that magical time of year in Calgary. Flowers are still in bloom, the weather is mild and the leaves are just starting to yellow. I can’t complain about September’s temperatures so far (we enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio right after we shot this post), but there’s a definite crispness in the air and a few crunchy leaves at my feet. I personally love this time of year, especially for fashion. And while I’m not quite ready to embrace autumn’s knits, boots and scarves, I’ve been pairing my summer favourites with lighter layers and a more autumnal colour palette during this transitional month. Today’s post is another installment in my HOW TO STYLE series — where I’m chatting about how to style jumpsuits and culotte silhouettes. I’m also sharing a few tips on how I like to transition more summery pieces like jumpsuits, maxis and rompers into autumn! Come hang out with me today for a dose of 70’s inspired glam and some casual autumn elegance.
