TROPICAL ZINGER GREEN SMOOTHIE

My Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie combines all the island flavours I’ve been craving lately — creamy banana, sweet pineapple, zingy satsuma, hearty pear, bright lime, healing ginger and hydrating coconut water — plus a mega dose of nutritious spinach and omega rich chia seeds (I promise you can’t taste the spinach at all!). This tropical elixir is packed full of vitamins, potassium, iron and protein — I often make it for lunch or breakfast to help with post workout recovery and give me an energy boost to power through the rest of my day. It’s also a great way to persuade your littles to eat their fruits and vegetables! Whip up a Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie anytime you’re craving a taste of the tropics — it’s refreshing, revitalizing and reminiscent of a super charged pinã colada (no white sandy beach required!).
Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana approximately 1/2 a cup
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 2 small satsumas or mandarins or 1 large orange
  • Half a pear
  • 4 cups spinach
  • 1/2 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut water
  • Juice from half a lime

OPTIONAL GARNISH

  • Sliced banana
  • Chia seeds
  • Unsweetened shredded coconut
  • Pineapple wedge

Instructions

  1. If you don’t have frozen bananas (or pineapple) on hand, you’ll need to make some! Frozen bananas are absolutely essential for a thick, creamy smoothie (trust me — you’ll thank me later!). To make them, simply peel and slice your bananas, peel and chop your pineapple, then scoop them into plastic bags and freeze for at least 4 hours.
  2. Chop (if necessary) and add all fresh ingredients, along with your frozen ingredients to your Vitamix (or similar).

  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Pour the Tropical Zinger Green Smoothie into a glass and garnish with fresh toppings. Some of my favourites include any of the ingredients featured in the smoothie (note above under the Optional Garnish section), along with hemp hearts, shredded coconut and edible flowers.
  5. Serve immediately, enjoying before it thaws!
