It was beauty overload here at JustineCelina headquarters last month — in the best way possible! October marked the beginning of my partnership with Sephora Canada and I published my first two posts in a series of six that we’ll be working on together this year. As you can imagine, there was a whole lot of liquid lipstick and fragrance testing going down last month as part of my research for my 5 Liquid Lipsticks to Try This Fall and Autumn / Winter 2016 Fragrance Edit posts (have you read them yet?!). So naturally, most of my October Beauty Favourites are liquid lipsticks and fragrances! In October I fell in love with three gorgeous liquid lipsticks in fall’s hottest shades — as well as a vampy, demi-matte traditional lipstick. I also gravitated towards two beautiful fragrances and discovered the best liquid black eyeliner I’ve ever tried! If you’re looking for even more beauty content, cozy up on this beautiful November evening and let’s chat about my beauty loves for October 2016!
OCTOBER 2016 BEAUTY FAVOURITES
US $75.00 (The Marsala Lip Collection)
Have you heard of TEMPTU? If you follow along with the YouTube beauty community, you may remember TEMPTU airbrushing systems cropping up in videos a few years ago. But did you know they also make (incredible) lipstick? I didn’t until last month, when whey contacted me and asked if they could send over one of their new collections. Right away, the The Marsala Lip Collection stood out to me. If you’ve been following along for awhile you’ll have heard me mention marsala (it was PANTONE’s Colour of the Year for 2015 and I even published a 6 Marsala Lipsticks to Try this Fall post). This family of warm neutrals ranging from rosy nudes all the way to extremely vampy shades sounded right up my alley!
I was pleasantly surprised with the TEMPTU Color True Lipstick formula — it’s extremely lightweight and glides effortlessly onto the lips. If you love the look of liquid lipstick but don’t like the liquid formula, try a matte lipstick with loaded with silicones like these ones! They remind me of my beloved Revlon Matte Balms but they’re even more silky and lightweight on the lips, while being ultra pigmented. These lipsticks are truly a unique formula and one of the most comfortable, demi-matte (which is coming off more with more sheen than usual on my lips below!) lipsticks I’ve ever worn. My favourite shade of the set is Plush Plum, which is a gorgeous, wearable plum shade with a brown undertone. It’s vampy and dramatic without being unwearable — I wore it to the Best Coast show I mentioned earlier this month and received lots of compliments on it!
If you’ve been following along with my Instagram Stories lately you may remember me raving about this incredible black liquid liner. Ladies (and gents), I’d like to formally introduce you to the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Defining Liquid Liner in Dark Valentine! If you’ve been around for any length of time you’ve probably heard me mention that my eyes are sensitive to well… just about anything. I think I’m the perfect candidate to test eyeliner, because chances are if something works for my hyper sensitive, watery, contact lens wearing eyes it will probably work for you too!
How do I love this eyeliner? Let me count the ways. First, the ultra fine felt tip applicator makes it so simple to acheive the perfect wing. If you’re a liquid eyeliner junkie like me, you’re probably familiar with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (my other high end favourite). Well, Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Defining Liquid Liner in Dark Valentine‘s felt tip applicator is even finer and the formula is richer, blacker and dries a little more matte. It also lasts forever. I have to use my trusty Desert Essence 100% Pure Jojoba Oil to remove it, followed up with my cleanser. I can confidently say that this is the best liquid eyeliner I’ve ever tried and that the price tag is justified. I also used it on Rebecca during our latest flower shoot (did you know I usually end up playing makeup artist before collaborative shoots for JustineCelina?!). She loved it too and couldn’t believe how precise the applicator was!

I had an love affair with Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Nahz Fur Atoo in October! It’s an on-trend, rich brick red shade that I included in my 5 Liquid Lipsticks to Try This Fall post. I wore it in my Autumn 2016 Trend Guide | New Romantic, to a COACH event, and pretty much every time I was craving some drama on my lips last month! Nahz Fur Atoo is a truly stunning, sensual shade that exudes confidence — plus it makes your teeth look ultra white. If you’re looking to embrace one of this season’s biggest colour trends you’re in luck because brick reds suit so many different skintones and I find them really easy to wear. If you’re interested in this shade or more from Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick range, hop over to my 5 Liquid Lipsticks to Try This Fall post where you’ll find more about the formula and wear time!

This liquid lipstick is still sold out at Sephora Canada — and for good reason! It’s one of the most unique lipsticks I’ve ever worn and I have absolutely nothing like it in my collection. If you’re looking for the liquid lipstick of the season — look no further than the Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in Out Loud! It’s a beautiful rusty orange that screams October and is right on trend for Autumn 2016. I wore it last month whenever I wanted something less dramatic than Nahz Fur Atoo and I love the fun, 70’s vibe it adds to my look. It’s the standout shade from Smashbox’s incredible Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick range (although it’s one of my all time favourite formulas and I love lots of other shades!) For more information on formula and wear time check out my 5 Liquid Lipsticks to Try This Fall post.

I’ve loved Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita for years, but our love was rekindled this October. This neutral, marsala shade looks beautiful (and very different) on almost every skintone. Although it’s a cult classic and this shade has been popular for a couple of year, Lolita is perfectly on trend this autumn. I love it because it coordinates well with autumnal makeup and the earthtones of the season — it’s my go-to shade when I’m craving something neutral and sophisticated. You’ll see it in action in my next Autumn 2016 Trend Guide! Again, for information on formula and wear time, you can read more about it in my 5 Liquid Lipsticks to Try This Fall post.

October was one delicious smelling month! I dusted off my favourite cool weather fragrances to research my Autumn / Winter 2016 Fragrance Edit and also discovered new fragrance loves. I stumbled across Derek Lam‘s 10 Crosby fragrances at my local Sephora when I was shopping for some new scents for the post and fell head over heels for Something Wild (it’s the one I was raving about in my Stories a few weeks ago)! I adore everything about this emerging fragrance brand and their minimalistic take on luxury. Something Wild is the most sophisticated, sensual, vanilla based scent I’ve ever worn — and I wore it so much last month that it will probably always remind me of this autumn! It’s totally addictive. If you’re looking for a fresh take on a vanilla based fragrance this season with warm, woody notes, you won’t be disappointed with Derek Lam’s Something Wild — my Mom fell in love with it too! If you’d like to learn more about Derek Lam or this specific scent, hop over to my Autumn / Winter 2016 Fragrance Edit.
C $82.00 – $108.00
And last but not least, there’s Nirvana White. The Elizabeth & James Nirvana range are some of my all-time favourite fragrances and I rekindled my love for this old favourite in October. Although I’m not typically an fan of overly flower-based scents, Elizabeth and James Nirvana White is a blend of peony, muguet and tender musk for a captivating scent that’s just easy to wear. It’s crisper and cleaner than I tend to gravitate towards at this time of year, but there’s something about it I was especially drawn to in October. If you’re looking for a timeless, feminine scent with an edge, you’ll probably love Nirvana White. Read more about it (along with my other favourite Nirvana scents) in my Autumn / Winter 2016 Fragrance Edit!
